Will Donald Trump Defy Expectations and Be a Peace President?

Politics

It’s hardly likely given America’s rage for endless wars, gorging on them. Neocons infesting Washington demand them.

Enemies are invented to accommodate them. War profiteers depend on them. The indifferent public does nothing to demand they stop.

Yet what US leader in memory said getting along with Russia “is a good thing, not a bad thing. Only ‘stupid’ people, or fools, would think that it is bad!” If Trump follows through on this rhetoric, imagine the possibilities for change.

The mindset of Obama, Bush/Cheney, the Clintons, their key officials and advisors, along with virtually today’s entire Congress and Western major media are one-sidedly hostile to Russia.

They disgracefully consider Vladimir Putin a bad guy when clear evidence shows he supports world peace and stability, rule of law principles and mutual cooperation among all nations.

America’s longstanding agenda has been polar opposite, worst of all under Obama. He boasted about being a warrior president throughout his entire tenure.

He’s guilty of raping, destroying and pillaging one country after another. Will Trump go another way or continue waging endless imperial wars?

Given his wanting a more robust military, including enhancing America’s nuclear arsenal, it’s unlikely peace will break out on his watch.

Yet if he ends US hostility toward Russia, cooperates with Putin in combating terrorism instead of supporting it like Obama, imagine the enormous difference that would make - the world’s dominant nuclear powers united for a just cause.

The possibility is breathtaking if Trump is strong-willed enough to make it happen. The importance of preventing possible nuclear war can’t be understated.

His presidency will be historic if he saves humanity from the scourge of potential thermonuclear disaster. What’s more important than that!

He’s yet to assume office, so his agenda is as much guesswork as likely expectations. He’ll face enormous pressure to continue dirty business as usual unchanged.

The whole idea behind baselessly accusing Russia of US election hacking is to delegitimize his election and prevent efforts to normalize bilateral relations.

Great leaders are few and far between. History’s best used their high office to improve the state of things they inherited on entering office.

On Sunday, I tweeted Trump, saying: Defy expectations. Make your leadership historic. Be a peace president, not a warrior. Only way to make Amer great again.

His handlers read tweets, checking for potential threats. Maybe they’ll show him mine - food for thought as he prepares to lead the world for good or ill.

Hopefully he has more of the former than the latter in mind - though I have no great expectations for the second coming of Jack Kennedy, the only US president I respected.

His agenda for good cost him his life. Is Trump up to assuming a risk this great? His place in history depends on which way he goes.

Will he be a great leader or just another dirty politician? Humanity holds its breath to find out.
