Stock Market Mixed Session

The day started off with a pop to the upside to new all-time highs, and then they pulled back down to retest successfully, particularly on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100. By midday they reached their lows and tried to rally in the afternoon, but unfortunately, they were not able to break out, and pulled back into the close.
Net on the day, the Dow was up 32.46 at 20,100.91, 25 points off the all-time high. The S&P 500 was down 1.69 at 2296.68, 23 points off its all-time high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 5.45 at 5156.92, 12 points off its high.
Advance-declines were 15 to 14 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 17 to 11 negative the Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 negative on New York, total volume of 3 1/2 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq traded 1.8 billion shares and had a 9 to 8 negative volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was narrowly mixed. Priceline.com (PCLN) was up 2.62 to 1581.44, Apple Inc. (AAPL) up just 6 cents to 121.94, Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) 2.63, to 839.15, but Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) was down 3.52 to 832.15.
Baidu, Inc. (BIDU) lost 1.66 to 174.95, Facebook, Inc. (FB) gained 1.30 to 132.72, and First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) dropped 62 cents to 32.28.
Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) gave back 1.96 to 252.51.
Other stocks to the upside included Clovis Oncology Inc (CLVS), up 3.27 to 61.69, Tesaro, Inc. (TSRO) had a huge day on rumors of a takeover, up 13.36 to 153.36, and NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) had a good comeback day, up 1.86 to 109.65, Aerie Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AERI), a swing trade of ours, was up 1.05 to 42.20 were among the point-plus gainers on our board today.
On the downside, U.S. Concrete, Inc. (USCR) was the only other point-plus loser on our board, down 1.90 to 67.05.
Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, Avinger, Inc. (AVGR) advanced 80 cents, or 35%, to 3.10, on 9.9 million shares traded.
Fuwei Films (FFHL), a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality BOPET plastic films in China, gained 1.11, or 48%, to 3.42, on 3.7 million shares traded, or 5800% more volume than average. Globus Maritime Limited (GLBS) popped 1.31, or 17%, to 9.11, on 2.6 million shares traded.
CARBO Ceramics Inc. (CRR) jumped 3.12, or 29%, to 13.80, on 7.5 million shares traded. Comstock Resources Inc. (CRK) bounced 2.25, or 22%, to 12.71, on 2.6 million shares traded. United Rentals, Inc. (URI) had a big day, up 12.80, or 11% to 127.06, on 6.5 million shares traded. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) had a very good day as well, up 7.97, or 9%, to 95.64, on 7.6 million shares traded.
Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up at the opening, down by midmorning, they backed and filled into early afternoon, rallied, but were unable to take out the highs, and then backed off at the close to finish mixed.
