‘Ruralization’ and ‘Agriculturization’: The Last Option for Human Survival and Growth...
Politics / Social Issues Apr 17, 2017 - 05:59 PM GMT... in the Age of Economic Crises and Terrorism
From the Myth of Growth and Abundance, the Humanity has entered into the Reality of Poverty and Survival, besides the Prolonged Economic Crisis for the destabilization of the rural economies, drastic decline of farm or food production and shrinking global economy as the byproducts of urbanization and aggressive industrialization. Deflating drinking and irrigation water supply due to changes in seasons and the weather, rising atmospheric heat or cold resulting in floods, draughts and wild fire and above all encroachments of fertile farm lands for industrialization and urbanization have become more evident.
All these factors have affected the very survival and economic bases of not only the rural and farming communities but also the national and global economies resulting in rising income or wealth disparities coupled with unsafe or deadly urban life with city-centered crime, violence and terrorism under different Islamic brands or logos.
Exploding Cities & Smart Technologies
To complicate matters, one third of the humanity is in eternal hunger and cities are exploding with migrant rural folks even crossing the national or continental boundaries. Globalization and Information Technology Revolution facilitated the rise of some Billionaires, keeping the majority the obedient slaves at poverty level.
All our social and economic developmental strategies as well as that of science, technology, education and the service sector have been centered on ‘Industrialization’ and ‘Urbanization’ at the expense of rural and agriculture sectors and communities leading to the erratic growth of cities. These problems have not properly been addressed by the UN, IMF, World Bank and the World Economic Forum besides the powerful religions. Islam and Christianity do not have any solution to save the humanity from poverty, inequality and aggravating global crisis other than promising Paradise after death rather than delivering it before death.
Industrialization’ and ‘Urbanization’
Economic growth has been reduced into just ‘Industrialization’ and ‘Urbanization’ projecting Rural and Agricultural regions and communities as the symbol of backwardness or underdevelopment or even poverty. The rapid rise of Corporatism and Smart Technologies result in the unprecedented inequalities in income and wealth facilitating around one hundred billionaires controlling over 80% of the global economy, keeping 70% of the humanity hungry, ignorant and weak. The Middle Class has been getting extinct. A feeling of helplessness and mistrust has been spreading in the heart of everybody.
At the height of cynicism and frustrations it is quite natural that people are turning towards Religious Primitivism and Terrorism thanks to fiery Sermons and the verbatim interpretations of the Scriptures along with using digital technologies, spreading information and burying down wisdom and knowledge. Digitalization and Smart Technologies make people ignorant of wisdom and knowledge for the over emphasis of Data and Information in Education and Social activities. Education has become an appendage of IT and Smart Technologies or Industries. The intellectual horizons and problem solving abilities of the youth and children who are too much exposed to digitization and smart technologies, are getting eroded challenging the very human survival.(www.slideshare.net/drrajumathew-digitally-modified-children)
Crisis, Primitivism and Terrorism
Industrialization and Urbanization, originated as a boon, have turned as a curse and the humanity is grappled with prolonged crises one after another, coupled with Religious Violence, Primitivism and Terrorism besides the decline of the Age of Reason, Intellectualism and Compassion. Some Islamic clerics and preachers have been trying to capitalize the crisis, calamity and uncertainty, offering Islamic Primitivism and Terrorism besides questioning even the proven scientific discoveries and democratic values.
Both Industrialization and Urbanization are self-destructive as they are programmed to destroy rural and agriculture bases, the backbone of the global economy. Though a thousand farms and rural areas can support ten cities, without farms and rural folks no cities can survive and villages can survive without cities. Trade originated when villages produced more than what they could consume leading to the growth of cities. Trade and the Service Sector have been evolved for disproportionately favoring the big traders and service providers leading to the rise of billionaires and corporatism, pushing back the rest towards eternal poverty.
Imbalances Breed Primitivism
The growing inter-sector and inter-region economic and social imbalances have paved the way for the sporadic growth of poverty-ridden common people without any hope or dream. This has resulted in turning a good number of the people, especially the youth, towards Religious Primitivism and Terrorism consequent on the re-invention and re-creation of the Primitive Age and Situations in which the scriptures and religions had been originated along with negation of the present and the future. This is truer in the case of religions that have the desert tribal backgrounds built upon inter-tribal war, enmity, looting, violence and slavery ; they prefer to brand all other tribes or religions as the enemies and infidels of its god or deity. This is the ideological and historical bases of Islamic Terrorism.
Solutions and Strategies
It is time to re-examine and redefine Religions, Education, Science & Technology, Economic Development and Governmental Activities besides , Urbanization in the midst of the growing Crisis, Uncertainty and Religious Primitivism and Terrorism. This is essential for the very survival of the humanity and making everybody the beneficiary of development, science & technology and education. Without ensuring Food, Dignity and Knowledge for each and everybody, peace and development are impossible and total destruction is a certainty. In these contexts, the strategies of Ruralization and Agriculturization have been proposed as the last option or solution.
Ruralization and Agriculturization
Ruralization and Agriculturization are mutually supporting each other and act as a catalyst for the development of each other and ultimately the service sector and the global economy. Planned and systematic development of the entire villages and rural areas besides the entire agriculture and farming operations with fivefold investment and systematic application of science & technologies and making every social production process knowledge-intensive can together be called as Ruralization and Agriculturization.
Ruralization and Agriculturization can ensure better quality life and enough food and drinking water besides clean air and energy for everybody and thereby rehabilitate the excess urban people productively, besides facilitate the controlled growth of cities and urban areas and limit the erratic growth of self-destructive cities. They are meant for empowering the entire farming and rural communities with knowledge and upgrading their income, status and standard of living on a par with the people in the industrial and service sectors.
Ruralization and Agriculturization are aimed at reducing imbalances or inequalities between agriculture and industrial or service sectors. It is actually a revolt against treating the rural and farming people as mere a fuel or cog in the wheel, denying dignity and equal status, for the growth and survival of the urban people and their industries and services sectors. It is a hard truth, though difficult to accept, that Ruralization and Agriculturization are the last option for human survival and growth.
