Will Nick Clegg Lose Sheffield Hallam Seat to Labour in Election 2017?
Local / Sheffield Jun 02, 2017 - 03:07 PM GMTIn the 2015 General Election former Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg put up a valiant battle in the face of a national Liberal Democrat wipeout. For in 2015 the opinion pollsters consistently had Labour winning the Sheffield Hallam Lib-Dem seat. Instead Nick Clegg managed to cling on in the wake of a Lib Dem bloodbath, however he did fall by a whopping 13% tumbling from 53.4% to 40% of the voter. Whilst Labour doubled their share from 16.1% to 35.8%, just 4.2% behind Nick Clegg. Whilst the Tories on just 13.6% clearly don't stand any chance of winning Sheffield Hallam in this election at least.
So Labour definitely smells blood in Sheffield Hallam this year which is being born out by the pollsters and bookies who just as was the case in 2015 are all claiming that Nick Clegg will likely lose his Sheffield Hallam seat.
However my analysis of 2015 repeatedly warned that the pollsters and bookies are wrong and that Nick Clegg would hold on to the Sheffield Hallam seat due to a myriad of local issues such as the Labour city councils catastrophic handling of school places that had angered many thousands of parents during 2015.
So will Nick Clegg lose the only LIb-Dem seat in the Socialist Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire? After all he only has a 4% lead over Labour.
Sheffield Hallam
Liberal Democrat | Nick Clegg | 22,215 | 40% |
Labour | Oliver Coppard | 19,862 | 35.8% |
Conservative | Ian Walker | 7,544 | 13.6% |
UKIP | Joe Jenkins | 3,575 | 6.4% |
Well clearly the bookies think so given that Labour are the marginal favourites though the race is tight. Hence the frenzy of Labour and Lib Dem leaflets flooding into peoples letter boxes across the constituency.
Clearly Labour are banking on the students remembering Nick Clegg's 2010 betrayal over tuition fees, for which the Lib Dems paid a heavy price in 2015. Remember Sheffield IS a University city with as many as 60,000 students at peak term time. Though, many if not most will likely have gone home for the summer for the June 8th vote, so a sliver of hope for Nick Clegg retaining his seat as there 'should' be fewer student voters.
However another boost for Nick Clegg will be local Sheffield City Council incompetence and blind disregard for the repeated expressed wishes of the people of Sheffield to stop the Spanish owned Amey from taking chainsaws to thousands of Sheffield's biggest and best Trees that has angered many tens of thousands of Sheffield residents with dozens of campaign groups having sprung up on the stumps of thousands of murdered trees.
Watch the following two videos for a taste of Sheffield's Tree's issue's and the Labour city council and MP's blind disregard for what's best for Sheffield as they cosy up to Spanish Ferrovial family owned Amey to the tune of £2 billion pounds!
Similarly traditional Labour voters from the ethnic minorities are increasingly being put off from voting for Labour given the apparent anxiety inducing surveillance war that the city council has been waging against Sheffield's brown faced communities. Therefore my forecast conclusion is that an incompetent Labour city council will once more scupper Labour party plans aimed at unseating Nick Clegg from his Sheffield Hallam seat who may even surprise all by increasing his majority!
