Will Amey Trees Rampage Cost Paul Blomfield Sheffield Central Labour Seat, Green Win?
ElectionOracle / UK General Election Jun 07, 2017 - 04:01 PM GMTThe Green Party are fielding their party leader Natalie Bennett in the Sheffield Central constituency hoping to unseat Paul Blomfield from what has been a rock solid Labour seat since 1945, to whom the Labour baton was passed in 2010 from Richard Caborn. The Green party are eager to capitalise on local issues such as the felling of thousands of Sheffied's big and beautiful trees by the Spanish Ferrovial Family owned Amey as part of a £2 billion PFI outsourcing contract by Labour Sheffield City Council that has angered and outraged many tens of thousands of Sheffielders, prompting dozens of campaign groups to spring up that will likely play a major role in the oucome of the next 2018 local elections.
Watch the following video for a taste of Sheffield's Tree's issue's and the Labour city council and MP's blind disregard for what's best for the people of Sheffield.
So will Labour Paul Blomfield Lose Sheffield Central to Green Party Natalie Benefit at the June 8th election?
Sheffield Central (2015)
Labour | Paul Blomfield | 24308 | 55% |
Green Party | Jillian Creasy | 6999 | 15.8% |
Conservative | Stephanie Roe | 4917 | 11.1% |
Liberal Democrat | Joe Otten | 4278 | 9.7% |
Whilst the Green Party did place second at the 2015 General Election, and are likely to improve their poll standing in the wake of Amey's Tree's rampage. However the gap between Labour and the Green Party is as huge 40%! It would require a swing from Labour to the Green Party of 20% to unseat Paul Blomfield which is just not going to happen!
So yes, the Green Party will improve their standing by increasing their share of the vote by 5%, to 20%. However that will barely make a dent in Labour's huge polls lead. Therefore Paul Blomfield is destined tohold on to Sheffield Central as a Labour heartland seat that will likely take several more decades of Green party campaigning before they have any real chance of unseating a Labour MP. Though Amey / Sheffield City Council has accelerated that process.

And what about former Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg? Can he hold on to his Sheffield Hallam seat, with Labour snapping at his heels just 4% away.
