Doritos Meltdown as Super Markets (Tesco) Say No to Voucher Winners
ConsumerWatch / Shopping Mar 29, 2018 - 09:56 AM GMTThe Doritos instant win promotion that began Mid February and due to end Mid April has proved to have a high probability for a win that we currently estimate at 40%, i.e. 4 out of every 10 packets will be a winner! Just enter the code on the back of the Doritos packets at the website and you will instantly know if you have won cash from £5 to £500 or a print at home voucher for free packet of Doritos which is what you are most likely to win.
Unfortunately, for winners there is a fly in the ointment in that supermarkets such as Tesco are increasingly refusing to accept any more than 1 voucher per customer PER DAY (worth upto 80p) in exchange for a free packet of Doritos as has been our recent experience at Tesco, Sheffield.
So what this means is that all Doritos winners saving up their vouchers to cash in on their next weekly or fortnightly shop at the likes of Tesco are effectively wasting their time entering the Doritos promotion because all they can get is 1 packet per DAY! Despite the voucher stating that it can be claimed at the rate of 1 per transaction i.e. 10 should be allowed to be claimed in a string of 10 transactions.
What's the point of companies such as Doritos holding promotions with customers winning prizes in the form of print at home vouchers for free product if the supermarkets choose to ignore the T&C printed on the vouchers and instead declare we are only allowing 1 voucher per customer PER DAY!
What's worse is that the print at home vouchers carry a 30 day expiry date. And worse still is that even if you are lucky to win instant cash, usually £5, your likely to only be in receipt of HALF the cash wins as has been our experience to date.
This illustrates the fatal flaw in many if not most super market promotions in that they tend to FAIL to deliver on their advertising sales pitches, where the most notable example in recent times was the infamous Walkers Crisps "Spell and Go" Win 1 of 20,000 Holidays Promotion that only delivered 4% of the advertised prize pool! Only 800 holidays were ever awarded!
Whilst the Doritos promotion, given Supermarket resistance at handing out free bags of crisps to voucher holders, currently has a conversion rate of 50% of the prize pool i.e. your likely to be able to bank or receive only HALF your wins, be they vouchers or cash wins.
This is bad both for the retailer and manufacturer as it literally leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of customers. WHY OPERATE A PROMOTION THAT WINNERS CANNOT CAPITALISE UPON! No one is going to drive down to their local super market to cash in a single voucher worth up to 80p. Thus the promotion appears designed to fail to deliver and so we will definitely not be buying any more Doritos, and in future will avoid all such promotions! I.e. those where the customer could win a print at home voucher.
