Trending Ecommerce Sites in 2020

Companies

Ecommerce has taken the world by storm in recent years, and more shoppers than ever are turning to the Internet to find the products they need in 2020. The competition is fierce, so eCommerce retailers need to do everything they can to get an edge on their competitors. That includes finding the best platforms for selling their wares. Read on to find out about the trending eCommerce sites that should be on every online retailer's radar in 2020.

1. Shopify

Shopify has already made a name for itself as a leading eCommerce platform. It's great for small to mid-sized businesses since it's easy to use and comes with impressive 24/7 customer support. It's also great for more advanced users because Shopify also offers full code access, which means developers can easily extend stores' capabilities to scale them up as businesses grow. Just make sure to find a reliable fulfillment service like JS Forwarding to ensure that products get to consumers quickly and in good condition.

2. Squarespace

Squarespace is a Software-as-a-Service company that provides online retailers with store building and hosting tools, including a basic eCommerce platform. It's one of the easiest platforms to use, which makes it appealing for those who are new to online selling. Be forewarned, though: only Squarespace's Business, Basic Commerce, and Advanced Commerce subscriptions come with eCommerce functionality.

3. Magento

Magento is an open-source eCommerce platform that's great for mid-sized businesses. It has a library off more than 5,000 extensions, and Magento Open Source is free to use. When Adobe purchased the company in 2018, it also created Magento Commerce, an enterprise-level solution intended for established businesses. Magento Commerce is more expensive, by a long shot, but it comes with everything online retailers need to ensure their business's success.

4. Wix

Wix is a cloud-based website builder that has an extensive array of templates for online store building. It's arguably the best eCommerce platform for small businesses that don't have the capital to hire a web designer. Plans start at just $17 per month, but users should expect to pay at least $23 to $35 per month if they want to be able to process and collect payments. Unfortunately, Wix doesn't scale as well as some of the alternatives discussed above, so serious business owners may want to look elsewhere for service.

5. Salesforce Commerce Cloud

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is an enterprise-level platform that comes with a full range of features. This makes it appealing to well-established, multinational companies that already process millions of dollars worth of online orders. Salesforce Commerce Cloud comes with a price tag that matches its capabilities, though.

6. WooCommerce

WooCommerce is an open-source WordPress shopping cart plugin It's a great option for small businesses that already operate WordPress sites or those working with tight budgets who still want robust functionality. This free plugin has the flexibility to accommodate most small business owners' needs, but it comes with a steep learning curve. There's no phone or email support, so users who are having trouble learning how to use WooCommerce are largely on their own.

The Bottom Line

There are tons of eCommerce platforms out there and each of them has a different set of advantages and disadvantages. The plus side is that many of these platforms offer free trials, allowing users to get to know the system and discover for themselves whether it will be a good fit.
