Tips For Finding The Right Influencers

While influencer marketing is one of the best strategies to invest in, you won't be reaping the benefits if you don't select the right ones. While it can be tempting to use individual metric definitions such as unique visitors or even Twitter followers as their measure of influence, you must look much deeper when searching.

You may be wondering how to tell whether or not someone is influential and how to measure it. Here are some of the key things you should be looking for when you are trying to figure out one's influence to choose the right ones.

1. Relevance

Before looking at unique visitor count and other metrics, you want to start to look at other things. For one, you want to figure out how aligned their content is with your own brand's messaging. You should be reading through the archived posts of the blogger to get a good feel for what kind of consumer they truly are and to figure out if it aligns with your brand.

Just because the influencer posts recipes doesn't mean they are a complete match with a brand selling organic products. Nor does a technologically savvy sports fan automatically align with your brand new gaming app.

Are you looking for influencers interested in fashion? Are you looking for budget-minded travelers? Are you looking for coffee enthusiasts? Is your brand edgy? These are the things you want to figure out when you are searching through the content an influencer is posting to ensure they mesh well with your brand's identity.

2. Engagement

Engagement is a good indicator of how much an influencer's audience interacts with them. You want to figure out how much engagement they are getting with their posts. How many comments are they getting on each post? How many likes? How many people are sharing? How many of the viewers are brand new vs returning? These are the things that will dictate how good an influencer can be for your marketing efforts.

The level of engagement an influence gets and how much their core audience returns is a good indicator of how much hold they have over their audience and what kind of relationship they have with it.

3. Reach

While this certainly isn't the most important thing to look at, you do want to consider it when choosing. Marketers don't want to put too much emphasis on the reach an influencer has. Both traffic count and the total number of followers are only going to be meaningful at telling you how much they can reach your target market. Some choose to buy Instagram likes.

For example, if you have a hotel and you are looking to reach travelers, a travel-related blogger that has a much smaller reach will be much more effective of an influencer than a food blogger that has a much larger audience.

You also want to factor in the social platforms your target market uses the most. For instanc
