Trump Puts North Korea Nuclear WAR Back on Track as Plans for Nobel Peace Prize Evaporate / Politics / North Korea

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Trump cancels the summit with North Korea's Little Rocket Man for 'angry statements' that followed Trump spoke persons such as Bolton stating that they were planning a Libya model for North Korea's future i.e. regime collapse. Whilst the announcement may have come as a surprise to the mainstream press. However, as my article of 2 weeks ago illustrated that I thought that even if a meeting took place between the two that it would not amount to more than a publicity stunt for Trump's ego who feels he's due a fake Nobel peace prize like the one handed out to Obama for apparently just getting elected.

North Korean Quagmire: Part 2. Bombing, Nuclear Threats, and Resolution / Politics / North Korea

By: Raymond_Matison

U.S. bombing crusade

After much experimentation and scientific study by Germany, Britain, and the United States, by 1943 it became clear that “a city was easier to burn down than to blow up.”
George Ball had been a member of the United States Strategic Bombing Survey team that was charged with studying the effects of bombing Germany and Japan.  It found that the resolve of both the German and the Japanese population to resist the enemy had not been broken by intensive bombing.  Despite this knowledge, what hardly any Americans know or remember is that we carpet-bombed North Korea for three years with next to no concern for civilian casualties.

The North Korea Quagmire: Part 1, A Contest of Colonialism and Communism / Politics / North Korea

By: Raymond_Matison

About this article

The purpose of this article (and its companion article Part 2) is to assess three questions of great importance as it relates to the relationship between North Korea and the United States of America.  The first is to make an inquiry as to why America and North Korea for decades on end holds each other as steadfast enemies.  The second is to evaluate whether this mutual enmity may lead to physical war in the region or beyond.  Finally, what is the likelihood that any future confrontation between these two countries may destabilize our global financial markets?

What Does a War With North Korea Mean? / Politics / North Korea

By: Rodney_Johnson

Kim Jong-Un, or “Rocket Man,” as our president prefers, always looks like he just ate a sour pickle – unless he’s inspecting a missile factory. Then he looks like an evil character in a B movie, gloating over his plot to rule the world.

I wish he’d move on to the monologue phase, where he talks so long that the hero of the film has time to slip out of his restraints, rescue the girl, defuse the bomb, and put the crazy little man on ice before the authorities arrive.

BREAKING NEWS - United States Galloping Towards Nuclear War with China Proxy North Korea / Politics / North Korea

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Virtually every day brings forth BREAKING NEWS of the war of words being played out by the worlds two nuclear armed lunatics, Trump and Jong Un) stumbling there way into a hot war that would soon turn nuclear.

The latest exchange of verbal missiles began with America's Delirious President Trump grandstanding at the UN, threatening that he was prepared to totality destroy North Korea if 'Rocket Man' would not shut his big fat mouth, and stopped threatening the US and it's interests in the region.

Why US Missile Defense Won’t Likely Protect Us from a North Korea Attack / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEOPOLITICAL FUTURES : The prospect that North Korea could fire missiles at its enemies has shed light on ways potential targets could defend themselves. And when it comes to missiles, some say the best defense is more missiles.

Ballistic missile defense (BMD) seems like a natural antidote, and though these systems have been in use for some time—and some have even intercepted their targets—the security they promise could hardly be considered absolute.

How To Resolve the Korean Conundrum  / Politics / North Korea

By: Dan_Steinbock

As the US policy has failed in the Korean Peninsula, dark scenarios cast a shadow over the region – but could also pave way for peace.

Recently, U.S. UN Ambassador Nikki Haley called for “the strongest sanctions” to pressure North Korea into giving up its nuclear arsenal “before it's too late.”

North Korea 'Begging for War', 'Enough is Enough', is a US Nuclear Strike Imminent? / Politics / North Korea

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The normally dovish US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley was busy banging the war drums at the UN today, effectively warning of a US pre-emptive first strike unless North Korea virtually immediately ceases its missile and nuclear tests.

"Enough is enough, we have taken an incremental approach, and despite the best of intentions, it has not worked."

"War is never something the Unites States wants - we don't want it now, but our country's patience is not unlimited. We will defend our allies and our territory."

Trump’s Decision On North Korea Will Define His Administration / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN AND JACOB L. SHAPIRO : Most US presidencies are defined by their foreign policies, and most foreign policies are defined by wars—those that were fought and those that weren’t.

The biggest decision an American president faces is whether to send the nation’s soldiers into certain danger to protect and defend the national interest.

Why Can’t Wheeler-Dealer Trump Cut a Deal with North Korea? / Politics / North Korea

By: Mike_Whitney

The United States and South Korea are currently engaged in large-scale, joint-military war games that simulate an invasion of the North, the destruction of the DPRK’s nuclear weapons sites, and a “decapitation operation” to take out the supreme leader, Kim Jong-un. The objective of the operation is to intensify tensions between North and South thereby justifying the continued US occupation of the peninsula and the permanent division of the country.

North Korea Is Far From Being Irrational… It Has A Plan / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : The United States has several thousand operational nuclear missiles. It has a large fleet of strategic bombers, an enormous navy, and hundreds of thousands of soldiers and marines. The US could bomb, blockade, and invade North Korea if it chose to incur the cost.

Yet North Korea is threatening to fire missiles at Guam, a US island territory in the Western Pacific where a substantial portion of the American strategic forces are now stationed. The North Koreans are also insisting that they intend to complete intercontinental ballistic missiles that could strike the US.

Kim Jong-un: Biography of a Young Despot / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

Cult of personality: a situation in which a public figure (such as a political leader) is deliberately presented to the people of a country as a great person who should be admired and loved. —Merriam Webster

North Koreans have lived under a cult of personality for decades. It is assumed by analysts that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un himself believes in his own demigod myth. Let’s look at how Kim grew up.

This Graphic Shows the Reach of North Korea’s Most Successful Missile Test / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

RiskEdge: Kim Jong-un is variously seen as a fantasy-sodden rattler of sabers or a mad and dangerous threat to global peace.

Whichever more closely approximates the truth, the world is watching North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile quest ever more uneasily.

And on May 14, the pariah state embarked on its most successful missile test yet:

North vs. South Korea: The Human Divide / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

RiskEdge : The wildly differing trajectories of North and South Korea since they were divided at the end of World War II are well known.

Slightly murkier are the very human statistics illustrating the differences between the two. The paranoically secretive nature of North Korea means that a wealth of data is difficult to come by, but the most reliable data available is striking.

A North Korean EMP Attack: The Dark Possibility / Politics / North Korea

By: HAA

Shannara Johnson : As the tension between North Korea and the US continues to grow, the possibility of war is rapidly evolving into a probability. Now some military experts worry that an attack via EMP (electromagnetic pulse) on the US mainland might be a feasible option for Pyongyang.

The signs are certainly there: Having recently completed the ninth missile test of 2017, Kim Jong-un promised to send the US an even bigger “gift package.”

Here’s Why China’s Supposed Influence Over North Korea Is A Bluff / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

By Xander Snyder : The US is pushing China deeper into a corner over the crisis with North Korea. It wants the Chinese to persuade the North Koreans to give up their nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

The popular perception is that Beijing has substantial leverage over Pyongyang, partly because China is North Korea’s largest trading partner. This impression also stems from China’s proposals to mediate trade concessions between North Korea and the United States.

North Korea: Is War the Inevitable Outcome? / Politics / North Korea

By: HAA

Shannara Johnson : There’s little doubt that from the moment Kim Jong-un took power in 2011, he has been on a mission to accelerate North Korea’s nuclear program.

There’s also little doubt this is of extreme concern to the US and the Trump administration.

Daily reports of US warships and submarines moving in along the Korean Peninsula and unrelenting missile tests in North Korea have sparked worries that a strike may be imminent. Will we end up in a war with North Korea, and what would be the consequences?

Here’s A Closer Look At North Korea’s Artillery Capabilities / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

By Geopolitical Futures : As Pyongyang, Washington, and other regional players prepare for the prospect of war, North Korea’s nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities have received undue amounts of attention. Important though they may be, they have less bearing on how the war will be fought than does North Korea’s conventional military.

Eliminating Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities would be the first objective in a war, and indeed the justification for an attack. The second objective would be to protect South Korea from North Korean retaliation.

US Attack on North Korea Is Imminent / Politics / North Korea

By: John_Mauldin

George Friedman: The US is preparing to attack North Korea, according to Geopolitical Futures founder George Friedman—setting the stage for a difficult, messy war with potentially catastrophic consequences.

Speaking Monday to a rapt audience at the 2017 Strategic Investment Conference in Orlando, Friedman said that while it is unlikely the US will take action before President Trump returns home at the weekend, North Korea’s actions appear to have “offered the US no alternative” to a clash.

Why is North Korea Being So Unreasonable? / Politics / North Korea

By: Antonius_Aquinas

On April 28, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the U.N. that North Korea “must dismantle its nuclear missile programs” before the US “can even consider talks.”*

Sounds reasonable.

Why hasn’t the Kim Jong-Un regime responded with open arms and shouts of joy for this generous and fair-minded proposal from Uncle Sam?
