Ryzen 9 5900X RTX 3080 - Scan.co.uk vs Overclockers.co.uk UK Custom PC System Builder Review / Personal_Finance / Computing

Which is Britain's best value for money custom builder for a high spec PC that based on AMD's Ryzen 9 5900x, a 12 cores 24 thread Zen 3 7nm CPU, AMD best value for money high productivity processor.

So I imagine for most contemplating upgrading their ageing desktop systems will be wondering should we go down the risky self build route or let the professionals handle it, which could be especially wise if you have either never built a PC before or it has been many, many years since one last plugged an athlon into a CPU socket, the last thing you want to do is to experiment with £2500+ worth of latest kit!

So here we engage the services of two of Britain's foremost custom builders to test out the difference between them in terms of price as both use the same component specs..

We have overclockers.co.uk and Scan Computers (scan.co.uk) from both of whom we have bought high spec PC's from over the years.

Ryzen ZEN 3: The Final Nail in Intel's Coffin! Cinebench Scores 5300x, 5600x, 5800x, 5900x 5950x / Personal_Finance / Computing

By: HGR

Here's why now is one of the best times to consider upgrading your old PC to a new system based on the just launched AMD Zen 3 5000 series processors.

The Zen 3 launch has surprised all to the upside and is thus set to have an even more devastating impact on Intel's market share as AMD decidedly takes the gaming crown away from Intel's flag ship 10900k processor.

Even worse for Intel is that it looks like ALL of Zen 3 CPU skews will BEAT Intel's 10900k in single core bench marking and thus most games if the cinebench scores for the two processors launched pan out i.e. the 5900x and the 5950.

AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 Launch - Performance, Prices Skews, Cinebench r20 Scores, 5800x, 5900x, 5950x / Personal_Finance / Computing

By: HGR

It's less than 2 hours to go before the big reveal at 5pm UK time when we finally get to discover the magic that AMD has worked on it's ZEN 3 5000 series of processors, Yes they will be 5000 series and not 4000 series as I concluded way back in May 2020 because AMD had already released their 4000 series APU's which are based on Zen 2 and not Zen 3 i.e. last Gen so would sow much confusion in the minds of many prospective buyers assuming that for instance a 4700x and 4700G were of the same generation when they are not.

What IPC Increase! My expectations since May have been to expect an increase of between about 15% and 22%, since which there is speculation that single core could achieve a gain of as much as 27% whilst multi-core a gain of about 15%.

Forget RTX 3080 Get Zen 3 Ryzen 5900x / 5950x - GPU vs CPU - PC Bottlenecking / Personal_Finance / Computing

By: HGR

Whenever we do a video about pc's, we are asked if X will bottleneck Y... well today we are going to show you what REAL bottlenecking looks like and why your focus should be on getting the most powerful CPU you can afford first before you even think about the GPU. Which I know at present is hard to do given the GPU mania currently underway in the run upto and release of Nvidia's RTX 3000 series and their liberal dosing to hundreds of youtubers who have dutifully been busy pumping out effectively adverts for Nvidia that looks set to be replicated on release of AMD's Big Navi!

But thankfully in the middle of the two side shows we have the real release of 2020 which are AMD Zen3 Ryzen processors, the 5000 series which is where prospective PC upgraders should be focused on.

Which RTX 3080 GPU to BUY and AVOID! Nvidia, Asus, MSI , Palit, Gigabyte, Zotac, MLCC vs POSCAPS / ConsumerWatch / Computing

By: HGR

Many AIB RTX 3080 Cards are tending to fail when running under load towards 2000mhz resulting in screen artifacts to game players being kicked to their desktops and even outright system crashes.

Igor Labs first identified the probable cause being AIB's use of cheap capacitor arrays to cut costs thus causing an issue in terms of noise in the power delivery system to the GPU's under boost load at above 1900mhz, the higher the boost the greater the risk of issues i.e. greater instability is when cards boost towards and over 2000mhz, well beyond Nvidia's FE nominal boost clock is at 1710mhz FE which in practice can boost to about 1900mhz in some games, though is less's than that which ABI's boost to hence the crashes being experienced.

WARNING RTX 3080 AIB FLAWED Card's, Cheap Capacitor Arrays Prone to Failing Under Load! / ConsumerWatch / Computing

By: HGR

There is growing disquiet across the blogosphere surrounding the RTX 3080 AIB cards that goes beyond the frustration of lack of supply and this is because of countless reports that AIB card's are proving problematic for many users that whilst playing GPU intensive games result in issues such as artifacts on screen or that they end up being kicked back to their desktops which suggests an issue when the GPU's are under heavy load i.e. at high boost clock speeds and temperatures.

Watch Before Upgrading / Buying RTX 3000, RDNA2 - CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks / ConsumerWatch / Computing

By: HGR

Nvidia RTX 3000 mania is likely soon to be joined by AMD RDNA2 mania. However, here's why you may in large parts be wasting your money if considering upgrading from your existing GPU, especially if it is a 2000 series RTX or 5000 series AMD, and may not be a wise choice to spend £700 for a new GPU even if your existing card is as old as a GTX 970. That's if you can get hold of a GPU courtesy of extremem demand and the scalpers.

Anyway watch this video first before paying upwards of £650 for the likes of an RTX 3080.

RTX 3080 Mania, Ebay Scalpers Crazy Prices £62,000 Trollers Insane Bids for a £649 GPU! / ConsumerWatch / Computing

By: HGR

Forget crypto's the real mania today is not in Bitcoin but RTX 3080 GPU's where the worldwide supply of the cards has been bought up within 5 minutes of Nvidia's launch largely by scalpers who have then gone on to dump the cards on the likes of Ebay with many starting bidding at ridiculous amounts for the £649 card, starting bids of upwards of £3,500!

If you though that no one is going to bid such ridiculous amounts for the privilege of getting hold of Nvidia's latest GPU you would be mistaken as depending your perspective the bidding is truly epic or insane, bids of upwards of £10,000, going all the way to £62,800! How many are real and how many are trolls? Even I was tempted to put in a bid for £90k! NINTY THOUSAND POUNDS FOR A £649 GPU!

Forget AMD RDNA2 and Buy Nvidia RTX 3080 FE GPU's NOW Before Price Hikes! / Personal_Finance / Computing

By: HGR

There' s growing speculation on the net that AMD's Big Navi RDNA 2 Next gen RX 6000 series GPU's could pull off a minor miracle by beating Nvidia's just released Samsung 8 nanometre RTX 3000 GPU's in terms of price per performance due to AMD's GPU's being on TSMC's 7 nanometre process which gives a small advantage in terms of thermals towards overcoming Nvidia's huge GPU lead.

Now that AMD know what Nvidia have to offer so can fine tune their RDNA2 GPU's in terms of clock speeds and power consumption to give them that final push towards catching upto Nvidia by bridging the price / performance gap towards ensuring their gaming GPU's come in CHEAPER than Nvidia alternatives namely the 3070 and 3080 i.e. $649 against $699 for the RTX 3080 and so for the 3070 and soon to be joined by the budget 3060TI. Though I doubt most are going to be able to get a 3080 anywhere near $699 for instance Scan computers in the UK is currently selling an RTX 3080 FE for £715 / $930!

AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 4000 Questions Answered on Cores, Prices, Benchmarks and Threadripper Launch / Personal_Finance / Computing

By: HGR

We finally have a launch date for Zen 3 ! October the 8th 2020 when all will be revealed. The first question that will be answered is will Zen 3 by 4000 or 5000 series CPU's the reason being AMD has already released their 4000 series APU's which are based on Zen 2 and not Zen 3 i.e. last Gen so likely to sow confusion in the minds of prospective many buyers assuming that a 4700x and 4700G are of the same generation when they are not. Though it is likely AMD will keep the confusing naming scheme and thus Zen 3 will be 4000 series processors. Whilst the RDNA2 cards are going to launched 3 weeks later on the 28th of October, that I am sure will come close to the Nvidia's 3080 in terms of price vs performance.
