Darnall Community Health, Sheffield UK NHS GP Patient Survey Results Update / Local / Sheffield
The latest results for the Department of Health Funded UK GP Survey have been recently released that cover the 4 quarters for September 2010. The survey features more than 5.5 million detailed questionnaires being sent out to NHS GP patients across England of which 2.06 million were returned. For the city of Sheffield a total of 67,842 questionnaires were sent out to the patients of Sheffield's 91 GP surgeries of which 26,865 were returned from which detailed results were compiled as listed in the table at the end of this article for the overall level of satisfaction at the quality of health care received for all of Sheffield's GP surgeries.

Sheffield NHS GP Consortia's Are Anti-Competitive and Should be Scrapped / Local / NHS
The core at the heart of Coalition Government's NHS reforms is to scrap ALL NHS Primary Care Trusts (PCT's) to be replaced by competing GP Consortia's to directly manage patient treatment commissioning (the process could take 2-3 years to implement).

Britain's post code lottery in health services manifests itself in the failure of GP's and PCT's to equally prescribe life saving and prolonging medicines and treatments regardless of where patients live. NHS GP's Ignore Men's Health Resulting in 100,000 Premature Deaths Per Year / Local / NHS
The Men's Health Forum, a charity aimed at targeting the inequalities in NHS delivery that results in 1/5th of men dieing before they reach the age of 65 as against 13% of women, has launched a campaign called "Lives to Short" to highlight the discrimination in the delivery of UK health services that effectively puts off men from seeking help due to their natural tendency towards reluctance to make a fuss.

Sheffield NHS Spending Cuts, PCT Scrapped, Which GP's Next? / Local / Sheffield
The new Coalition Government was apparently so impressed by the performance of the NHS Primary Care Trusts (PCT's) that as part of its cost cutting austerity plan it intends to scrap ALL PCT's in favour of GP Consortia's directly managing patient treatment commissioning (the process could take 2-3 years to implement). This means Sheffield NHS PCT who's achievements include employing 400 bureaucrats in a new multi-million pound headquarters is destined to disappear from Sheffield's health landscape.

Sheffield NHS GP Walk In Centre / Local / Sheffield
The last Labour governments solution towards badly performing GP surgeries was to introduce Super Surgeries or Poly Clinics. Sheffield saw its own GP Polyclinic or Super Surgery open during mid 2009 that aimed to fill the gap in the wide disparity in quality of GP health care throughout the city by operating a 7 days a week service from 8am to 8pm.

Darnall Community Health New NHS Medical Centre Delayed Opening Until Late 2011 / Local / Sheffield
The patients of Darnall having to put up with Sheffield's bottom ranking GP services (as per the Department of Health Funded UK GP Patient Survey) have been eagerly awaiting the development of a New Darnall Medical Centre that was given the go ahead in September last year that had construction work planned to commence early 2010 at the Darnall Main Road site.

UK Swine Flu Pandemic NHS Online Service to Bypass Inept GP Surgeries / Local / Global Pandemic
The British government will tomorrow implement new measures to ensure that those that need the anti-viral's such as Tami-flu are more likely to receive treatment than would have otherwise transpired under the existing procedures of contacting ones local GP surgeries. In total so far 29 people have died from swine flu, though many had underlying health issues. The mainstream press recently ran with scare mongering headlines of as many as 65,000 deaths which is set against a normal seasonal flu toll of between 6000-10000 deaths. Another significant factor is that swine flu tends to hit the young more than the elderly, so children are at much greater risk than with the usual seasonal variant.
