History's Hidden Engine - Documentary that shows how Stock Market Trends influence societies moods
InvestorEducation / Analysis & Strategy Jan 20, 2007 - 04:27 PM GMT
History's Hidden Engine explores society's moods and how shifts in overall mood affect areas as disparate as fashion, movies, politics, the economy and the tendency to make war. Moore says he was inspired to create the movie by "Popular Culture and the Stock Market," a report by financial analyst Robert Prechter. Moore quickly realized that "the ideas behind this field are too new and complex to explore in every aspect in a single documentary." Nonetheless, he liked the challenge of creating a film that includes the views of an increasing number of experts who are looking into the emerging theory called socionomics.
The documentary's research shows that social mood trends are likely the leading factor in both box office busts and cinematic success. In this three-minute video, you'll discover what Disney's Snow White has in common with Texas Chainsaw Massacre , and how the success of both was tied to the financial markets. The jist of the documentary being that during bull markets movies tend to be upbeat and more family orientated and adventurerous, such as the Jurassic Park series, whilst during bear markets, successful movies tend to be dark, horror types such as The Ring.

History's Hidden Engine is the result of more than three years of research and creativity by filmmaker David Moore. Moore traveled North America to capture the insights of 17 brilliant minds, then wove them into this film. In just 59 minutes and with the help of pop songs, news footage and cultural images that are familiar to everyone, this documentary shows how social mood drives trends in movies, music, fashion, finance, economics, politics, the media and war.
