Hidden Costs You Need To Be Careful With When Taking Out A Business Loan

Companies / SME Jun 08, 2017 - 06:43 PM GMT

Companies There are various situations in which a business loan is necessary. This is a very important decision, no matter why the money is needed. The problem with various business loans is that the borrower does not fully read the contract. Automatic signing is much more common than it should be. There are so many possible hidden costs that could appear and that have to be identified. It is easy to learn how to apply for a debt consolidation loan online or any other loan but it is more difficult to avoid those hidden costs. In order to help, here are those that appear more often than others.

Due Diligence Costs

When referring to diligence we can be faced with something really simple like getting a credit report or having asset appraisal done or financial position audits. Diligence costs normally end up associated with 3 cost types: disbursements, legal and time. What is important is to know exactly who will cover every single diligence cost and you need to know how much you are expected to pay if it is your responsibility.

Administrative Fees

People actually started to figure out that these exist and are important because of the student loan crisis. There were many administrative fees that made debt higher. Unfortunately, the exact same thing can happen with the business loans. In many cases there is a monthly fee that will be charged by the lender to monitor and administer the loan. A regular fee is up to $100 if the loan is under $250,000. However, when looking at the higher amounts, the administrative fees can easily go up. At the same time, there is an annual renewal or review fee that is added in most business loans.

Minimum Increments Costs

Different lenders now round up loan disbursement amounts to set increments. As a simple example, in the event that $50,000 is the minimum set disbursement and the money needed is $51,000 in a month, interest for $100,000 will be required. Minimums have to be negotiated away and this minimum amount needs to be as low as it could be.

Minimums

Lenders tend to have clients connected to a pre determined outstanding dollar amount per month so that advertised interest rates can be obtained. Penalties can appear when going under the amount as the month is over. Annual interest that is earned is calculated and the borrowers have to top everything up when actual amount earned is lower than what was seen as expected amount when the year started.

Transaction Fees

Often we do not think about fees when taking out a business loan but these can appear in many cases as lenders give you funds as you need them. Will you be sent a wire transfer or will a pre-paid credit card be issued? No matter the case, such a logistic topic is going to bring in some transaction fees. Always know how much you are about to pay for every single transaction that goes in or out of your accounts so that you factor this into your budget.
