Creating the Best Office Space

Companies / SME Jan 18, 2019 - 09:55 AM GMT

Companies It is pretty sad to say that in the modern world the two places we spend the most time are at work and in bed sleeping. Put like that you might feel a little down but making the best of your office space can put a better spin on things, and according to the experts at Bed SOS, having a positive workspace can actually help you sleep better at night as you stress levels will be lower and your enjoyment factor will be higher, even at work. So how do you create the best office space working within the constraints you have?

Bring the Outside In

Plants are really great for our space, they provide a natural cleaning power to the air around you, and they look pretty great too. A small pot plant on your desk can really lift the spirits and help the mind stay focused. Having a plant in your workspace is said to increase productivity so what are you waiting for, some great candidates include succulents, spider plants and jade. Just be sure that they are not forced to sit for prolonged periods in direct sunlight and that you remember to water them. Ask a colleague to keep an eye on them when you are on annual leave. If you really do not like real plants or simply cannot keep them alive, then a fake plant will bring a similar effect, but it won’t clean the air.

Kick the Clutter Out

You know the saying a tidy room is the sign of an orderly mind? Well, it is entirely true, even the most organised people find it hard to work in a room full of clutter, so if you have a propensity to being untidy and cluttered it is time to make amends. It is hard to get focused and productive in a space that feels disorganised and chaotic so bring some order to the room and tidy up the clutter. Get some boxes and organisers so that you can remove what you do not immediately need from view and work on clever storage ideas that help you make the most of the space you have. The less you have to wade through the easier it will be to find what you need.

Keep it Human

Without adding to the general clutter do not forget to bring a bit of personalisation in, your significant other, the kids, the dog, if these are a large part of your life you do not have to leave them out altogether.  A photo or desktop wallpaper is a great way to see those you love and eject a little motivation into your day. Colour also plays a part in mood, so figure out what colours make you feel good and add a splash of colour to your workspace. Accessories, a poster, whatever works for you and of course fits with the boss if you are at work, can all help to generate that all-important motivation and make work feel less like a chore and more like something you can actually begin to enjoy.
