HUI GOLD Ratio Chart…Another Grizzly Year! / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Rambus_Chartology

I was just going over some old charts and came across this one which is a ratio chart that compares the HUI to gold going all the way back to the bear market low that was made back in 2000. I use to show this chart quite a bit when the blue triangle on the right side of the chart broke down. This chart shows you a good example of how weak the HUI has been vs gold. The initial impulse move out of the 2000 bear market low shows the HUI really kicking gold’s butt until late 2003. The ratio then declined into the 2005 low which ended creating a double top hump.

Four Mining Stocks that Can Survive Gold $1,050 and Silver $15 / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: The_Gold_Report

The price of gold has see-sawed since the Federal Reserve raised interest rates on Dec. 16, and market experts debate if the action is good or bad for gold. Rob Chang of Cantor Fitzgerald Canada believes that after the small rate hike doomsayers are overstating their case and that gold should sell in 2016 for about $100/oz more than today. In this interview with The Gold Report, he argues that in today's climate cash costs of $1,000/oz are the bare minimum necessary for survival. Happily, Chang highlights three gold producers and one silver producer that have what it takes.

The Gold Report: Some say the price of gold has for some time been suppressed by fear of a Federal Reserve rate hike. What do you think?

Gold Stocks Remain in Position to Rebound / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

The Fed rate hike has come and gone while the precious metals sector has continued to whipsaw traders day after day. The initial reaction was very positive. However, that completely reversed course on Thursday with Gold threatening to move to a new low and gold miners threatening to test recent support. Friday's strength continued the whipsaw pattern. In any event, the evidence continues to argue in favor of a rebound for the miners into Q1 2016.

Eric Coffin Calls Out the Fed's Biggest Mistake and What You Can Do to Protect Your Portfolio / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: The_Gold_Report

Eric Coffin, editor of HRA Journal, writes one of the must-read newsletters in the junior mining sector. In this interview with The Gold Report, Coffin implores gold equity investors to ask: Is the project financeable in this market? And he discusses some companies he covers in the HRA Journal with the know-how to find funds, as well as a couple of uranium names that would benefit from utilities re-entering the market to find long-term delivery deals. But Coffin gets rolling by questioning U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen's timing, warning investors about the growing divergence between equity and higher yield markets, and shooting down the accepted theory that the U.S. dollar index is heading to 120.

Santa Claus Gives Away Top 5 Junior Gold Mining Stock Picks / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: The_Gold_Report

Thibaut Lepouttre, editor of Caesars Report, knows 'tis the season for generosity, so when we asked him for his top three picks among junior mining equities, he gave us five—four gold plays and a phosphate name. Belgium-based Lepouttre also discusses different "black-swan" events and their potential impact on the gold price, as well as some naughty and nice mining jurisdictions. But this is the interview that keeps on giving, so before he left Lepouttre added two micro-cap oil names he believes would make great "stocking stuffers." He's not Santa Claus but you'll appreciate his magnanimity in this interview with The Gold Report.

How Much Longer Will Rising US Dollar Crush Commodities and Mining Stocks? / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jeb_Handwerger

-For over four years, capital has been flowing from Europe into the US Currency and Economy to get better returns.
-The rising dollar and S&P 500 crushed commodities and emerging economies over the past several years.
-Geopolitical uncertainty throughout the world is rising especially in the Middle East where now Russia and the West are taking on ISIS.
-Rapidly rising US dollar caused horrible bear market in mining equities.
-High US dollar is slowing down economic growth domestically which could be exacerbated by higher rates. Meanwhile, Europe and emerging economies may be bottoming and improving with the negative rates.

Relative Strength in Gold Stocks Portends to Rebound / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

A few weeks ago we warned that the gold miners were at risk of a technical breakdown. They struggled to rebound at support while Gold was breaking to a new low. Gold continued to decline but the miners held support and stabilized. Gold traded as low as $1045 on Thursday but the miners continued to diverge in a positive fashion. The recent relative strength from the gold miners particularly in the face of new lows in Gold, coupled with the oversold condition of the metals suggests a sector rebound is developing.

The Upside of a Down Gold Mining Market / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: The_Gold_Report

When the instinct is strongest to curl up in a ball and wait out the ravages of the down market is also when smart companies snap up distressed projects and get to work while capital costs are low. In this interview with The Gold Report, veteran investors Bob Moriarty of 321gold.com and Adrian Day of Adrian Day Asset Management share their messages to mining company CEOs and investors about advancing frugally to avoid being left in the dark. To make investing in teams doing the right things even easier, they identify a dozen companies that have already taken the contrarian advice to heart.

HUI and Gold - Who's Leading Whom? / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Rambus_Chartology

The Key Principle of this market analysing discipline we call Chartology: What makes the markets go up and down and sideways are investors emotions.

From the little guy trading on his laptop to some big hedge fund manager that has an office full of people telling him what to do. The sum total of everyone's psychology and conviction is what creates the many different chart patterns we are constantly searching for. Take for example the principle of Reverse Symmetry, how a stock goes up is often how it comes back down. Something one needs to look for when you're analyzing a chart for the purpose of discerning the next probable move. It doesn't make any difference what time frame you're looking at either. This is the reason, when you have a parabolic rise in a stock, you'll see a very similar decline which many times is faster than when it went up. The reason for this is because the stock spent very little time consolidating the impulse move, only taking the time to form very small consolidation patterns which don't have the staying power of a big consolidation pattern. There is nothing to offer support once the reversal takes place. The conviction (psychology again) of the market players is not there.

Bracing for Another Breakdown in Gold Miners GDXJ and GDX / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

The bear market in the gold miners has been one for the record books but it is not over yet. Last week we noted that precious metals were on the cusp of making new lows while the US$ index was very close to another key breakout. This scenario remains well in play and would certainly affect the gold mining sector, which over the past two weeks failed to rebound or build on any strength.

GDX Gold Miners’ Strong Q3 Results / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Zeal_LLC

The beleaguered gold-mining sector continues to be plagued by monumental universal bearishness.  Nearly everyone assumes the gold miners are doomed, that they can’t survive for long in a sub-$1200-gold environment.  But this belief is totally wrong, a consequence of extreme fear’s fog of war.  The gold miners’ underlying earnings fundamentals remain very strong, as evidenced by their recent Q3 results.

In all the stock markets, corporate profits ultimately drive stock prices.  Because a stock simply represents a fractional stake in its underlying company’s future earnings stream, all stock prices eventually revert to some reasonable multiple of those profits.  These earnings are truly the only fundamental driver of stock prices.  All deviations from righteous valuations based on profits are just the temporary products of herd sentiment.

Michael Curran Goes Down-Market Shopping for Gold Stock Winners / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: The_Gold_Report

Most of the low-cost gold producers are fairly valued, says Michael Curran, managing director and mining analyst with Beacon Securities, so he's heading down-market to the advanced development opportunities and early-stage explorers that he thinks could become low-cost producers. Sure there is risk, as Curran explains in this interview with The Gold Report, but the reward could come via either a takeover bid by an established producer seeking to lower its overall costs or by supporting these companies as they transition into emerging producers.

The Gold Report: Please give us two or three key investment themes that you envisage happening in the mining equities space in 2016.

Absurd Gold Stock Levels / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Zeal_LLC

Gold stocks have suffered heavy collateral damage following the Federal Reserve’s hawkish surprise late last month, which ignited enormous gold-futures selling by American speculators.  This devastated sector has been battered back down near last summer’s deep secular lows.  But these gold-stock price levels are fundamentally absurd, the product of extreme and irrational sentiment that can’t persist for long.

Today’s gold-stock price levels are the greatest fundamental disconnect in the entire stock markets, an epic opportunity for contrarian investors and speculators!  The entire gold-mining industry is trading as if the price of gold, the overwhelmingly-dominant driver of its profits, was just a small fraction of prevailing levels.  Gold stocks are radically underpriced fundamentally based on their current and future earnings power.

Bearish Reversal in Precious Metals at Resistance...Again / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

The precious metals sector sharply reversed course after the Federal Reserve hinted that it may raise rates at its next meeting. This about face from the Fed was enough to effectively end the fledgling rally that began in the summer and threatened to take metals and miners higher to their 400-day moving averages. The prevailing thought was the Fed was on hold for a while and this paved the way for more strength in the precious metals complex. Thoughts be damned! The Fed has whipsawed gold bugs (and me) again.

Do you have wealth insurance? Tocqueville Gold Fund Portfolio Manager John Hathaway has studied the past and he sees a bright future for those who have taken the precaution of protecting themselves from the downside of a general bear market by buying resource mining stocks when they are at historic low prices. In this interview with The Gold Report, Hathaway shares the names the fund is holding as ammunition for a better gold market.

The Gold Report: John, you have studied the fundamentals of gold through history. What is behind the current market prices, and what will it take to move prices higher again?

Precious Metals Starting To Produce Some Winners / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: John_Rubino

Everybody who’s owned gold and silver mining shares through a couple of cycles has their favorite story of the stock that took off and ran away. There was Glamis Gold, which rose from $1 to $40 in the space of a few years before selling out to Goldcorp. And Silver Wheaton, which soared from $3.45 in 2008 to over $40 in 2011. And many, many more.

GDXJ, GDX Gold Miners Holding Gains in Bullish Fashion / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2015

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

We published a video update a few days ago discussing the short-term outlook for the precious metals sector which includes the gold miners. With regards to the miners, we took the view that they could digest recent gains and hold support or break lower and trade close to the support near summer lows. After this week and today especially, one scenario is more likely.
