Big Day for the Stock Market / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Harry_Boxer

The stock market indices had a very strong session today. The day started out with a pop to the upside, a quick pullback retest, and then they were off to test resistance. For the next several hours the Nasdaq 100 went sideways, and consolidated in coil patterns. The S&P 500 actually moved up in a rising channel, and at the end of the day exploded to the upside, tested secondary resistance, and close right there. These are very key levels near 5400 Nasdaq 100, and the 2349-50 area for the S&P 500, and that’s where they closed.

Stock Market Lindsay Long Term Intervals / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Ed_Carlson

The March 20 Market Update showed our Long Term interval forecast – both 15 and 12 year intervals. As we are now seeing the biggest pullback in the Dow since last autumn we have to assume that the 15yr interval is exerting its influence and the decline won’t end until the 12yr interval (May-November, 2017) takes over.

Stock Market, Gold Miners GDX Update / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Brad_Gudgeon

We entered into a Mercury Retrograde period on April 9, which I have said before is like trading in the Bermuda Triangle, difficult at best! Typically, this usually portends a turn in the precious metals market within about 2-4 trading days. As far as the stock market is concerned, the normal indicators tend not to work as well.

Stocks Are Completely Mis-pricing the Risk of a Another Debt Ceiling Screw Up / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Graham_Summers

While everyone continues to focus on Trump and his policies, a much larger issue looms.

That issue is the US debt ceiling.

The US Government hit its debt ceiling on March 16, 2017. The Government employed “extraordinary measures” to keep the Government open. At that time, Congress had a little over three weeks to deal with this issue.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The mainstream media has been busy painting a rosy picture of how Tesco, Britain's supermarket giant is bouncing back in its latest results, with sales up for the first time in 7 years and the SFO false accounting scandal behind it.

SPX Stock Market Correction Continues / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Tony_Caldaro

The market started the holiday shortened week at SPX 2356. After a rally to SPX 2366 early Monday the market started to pullback. After a decline to SPX 2337 Tuesday morning the market rallied to 2353 by Wednesday morning. Then the market declined into the end of the trading week, closing at the SPX 2329 low. For the week the SPX/DOW lost 1.05%, and the NDX/NAZ lost 1.15%. Economic reports for the week were mostly negative. On the downtick: the CPI/PPI, retail sales, the WLEI, the Q1 GDP estimate, consumer sentiment, plus weekly jobless claims and the budget deficit rose. On the uptick: export/import prices. Next week’s reports will be highlighted by the Beige book, the NY/Philly FED, and industrial production. Best to your week!

Passive Investing Will End In Pain For Many Stock Market Investors / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: John_Mauldin

Every bear market correction since 1947 that didn’t come during a recession was relatively quickly reversed. Think about what happened in 1987 and 1998. There were pretty serious corrections and then a bull market.

The bull market that found its footing in 1987 lasted for another 13 years. In 1998, we were only a few years away from a major correction accompanied by a recession.

Stock Market Weak Technicals, Pullback Continues, Negative Day Across the Board / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Harry_Boxer

The stock market was decidedly lower today. The indices started the day out, though, with a little pop to the upside, but resistance failed immediately. They then started to work their way lower by late morning, and reached the session lows on both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, bounced in the afternoon, took back about two-thirds of the losses, and then pulled back down and retested the lows before a late bounce pulled them off the lows for the day.

Stock Market Signs of Concern / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Donald_W_Dony

After a strong showing of strength from the markets over the last four months, a topping appears to be developing.

Some of the factors that seem to be soften the near-term bull market are geopolitical risks.

The building tensions around Syria and North Korea have placed many investors on edge and moved them toward safe-havens.

US Economy Contracting but Expect Higher Stock Prices / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Chris_Vermeulen

The United States is the world’s largest and most diversified economy! It is currently suffering through a protracted period of slow growth which has held down job creation and labor market participation.  The Pew Research Center reported, in late 2015, that a mere 19% of Americans trust the government either always or most of the time.

The FED must print more money in order to keep the party going forward.

Stock Market Indices Closes Moderately Lower on the Day / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Harry_Boxer

The stock market indices suffered steep losses early in the session. They came down very sharply to test an important support at the bottom of their current down channels and lateral price support, near 5360 Nasdaq 100 and 2337-8 S&P 500. By midday, they rallied very sharply and took back more than fifty percent of the losses, but pulled back at the end of the session. Only in the last ten or fifteen minutes did they spike up again to finish with nominal losses on the blue chips, but pretty solid losses on the Nasdaq 100.

Briefly: In our opinion, speculative short positions are favored (with stop-loss at 2,410, and profit target at 2,200, S&P 500 index).

Intraday outlook (next 24 hours): bearish
Short-term outlook (next 1-2 weeks): bearish
Medium-term outlook (next 1-3 months): neutral
Long-term outlook (next year): neutral

What Will Finally Break the Market's Lethargy? / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Clif_Droke

To most individual traders, there is no bigger buzz kill than a narrow trading range. It takes the wind out of the sails of breakout and momentum traders, and even expert stock pickers have a tough time finding the stocks which are bucking the sideways trend.

Wall Street would much rather see a lively bull market when stocks are roaring and participation is widespread among all classes of investors. But sometimes even a trading range-type market is good enough for the Street , provided stock prices are near all-time highs. For even when prices are making no headway, the aggregate yield on stocks pays enough in dividends to make the lack of action worthwhile.

By: Tony_Caldaro

The market started the week at SPX 2363. On Monday the market opened higher but dropped down to SPX 2345. Before the day ended the market had turned around, and then rallied to SPX 2378 by Wednesday. Then after a decline to SPX 2349 by early Thursday, the market hit 2364 late, and then again on Friday, before ending the week at 2356. For the week the SPX/DOW lost 0.15%, and the NDX/NAZ lost 0.45%. Economic reports for the week were slightly positive. On the downtick: ISM manufacturing/services, auto sales, monthly payrolls, the WLEI and the Q1 GDP estimate. On the uptick: construction spending, factory orders, the ADP, wholesale inventories, consumer credit; plus the unemployment rate, trade deficit and weekly jobless claims all improved. SPX and GDX in Perspective / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: Brad_Gudgeon

Below are daily charts of the S&P 500 and the gold miners index ETF, GDX. Right now, it seems as though these two are trading inversely for the most part. Odds are we see a gap down Friday in the stock market and a gap up in GDX.  This should be followed by a strong rally for stocks into Monday and a strong drop in GDX.  Overall, the stock market looks lower into April 21 with gold stocks trading higher.

Stock Market Investors Stupid is as Stupid Goes / Stock-Markets / Stock Market 2017

By: James_Quinn

If you prefer fake news, fake data, and a fake narrative about an improving economy and stock market headed to 30,000, don’t read this fact based, reality check article. The level of stupidity engulfing the country has reached epic proportions, as the mainstream fake news networks flog bullshit Russian conspiracy stories, knowing at least 50% of the non-thinking iGadget distracted public believes anything they hear on the boob tube.

This stupendous degree of utter stupidity goes to a new level of idiocy when it comes to the stock market. The rigged fleecing machine known as Wall Street has gone into hyper-drive since futures dropped by 700 points on the night of Trump’s election. An already extremely overvalued market, as measured by every historically accurate valuation metric, soared by 4,000 points from that futures low – over 20% – to an all-time high. Despite dozens of warning signs and the experience of two 40% to 50% crashes in the last fifteen years, lemming like investors are confident the future is so bright they gotta wear shades.
