Newmont Mining Gann Angles / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: readtheticker

Newmont Mining (NEM) is a gold stock with plenty of institutional interest. This means due to its huge following it is a good candidate for Gann Angles.

Gold and gold stocks are waiting for the FED and other central banks to swing to dovish monetary policy, Powell hinted this in last speech, and next week the FED is expected to hike 0.25% to 2.5%, however the 3 previously planned hikes in 2019 look very doubtful.

Gold Stocks Triple Breakout / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The beleaguered gold stocks are recovering from their late-summer capitulation, enjoying a solid young upleg as investors gradually return.  Their buying has pushed the leading gold-stock ETF near a major triple breakout technically.  That event should really boost capital inflows into this sector, accelerating the rally.  A major gold and gold-stock buying catalyst is likely imminent too, a more-dovish Fed next week.

The gold miners’ stocks have always been a small contrarian sector, a little-watched corner of the stock markets.  But they’ve been even more unpopular than usual in recent months.  That pessimistic sentiment is driven by price action, which has mostly proven poor in 2018.  That’s really evident in the performance of the flagship gold-stock investment vehicle, the GDX VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF which is struggling.

The Amazing Story of Gold to Gold Stocks Ratios / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Rambus_Chartology

Tonight I would like to show you some charts from the PM complex we haven’t looked at in a long time. Some of these charts will look familiar to some of our long term members as they were very helpful in the past to help us figure out what the PM complex was up to. This first chart is a ratio combo chart which has the GOLD:XAU on top and the XAU on the bottom. When the ratio is rising gold is outperforming the XAU. During the bull market years starting around 1999 or so the ratio would trade between roughly 5.10 on top, blue horizontal line, and 3.70 on the bottom, red hormonal line. When the ratio rallied up to the blue line around the 5.10 area it was a good time to back up the truck and buy your favorite PM stocks and when the ratio got down to the red line around the 3.70 it was a good time to sell your PM stocks.

Gold Stocks Acting as they Should During Market Stress / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Gary_Tanashian

The macro has moved through a time of moderately rising inflationary concerns when economies were cycling up, many commodities were firm and risk was ‘on’. Contrary to the views of inflation-oriented gold bugs, that was not the time to buy gold stocks.

As I have belabored again and again, the right time is when the inflation view is on the outs, gold is rising vs. stock markets, the economy is in question, risks of a steepening yield curve take center stage (the flattening is so mature now that steepening will be a clear and present risk moving forward) and by extension of all of those conditions, confidence declines.

Junior Gold Stocks Q3’18 Fundamentals / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The junior gold miners’ stocks have spent recent months mostly languishing near major multi-year lows.  That spawned a sentiment wasteland riddled by bearishness and bereft of bids.  But these companies’ battered stock prices aren’t fundamentally righteous, as proven yet again by their latest earnings season.  Faring far better in a challenging third quarter than stock prices imply, they need to mean revert way higher.

Four times a year publicly-traded companies release treasure troves of valuable information in the form of quarterly reports.  Companies trading in the States are required to file 10-Qs with the US Securities and Exchange Commission by 40 calendar days after quarter-ends.  Canadian companies have similar requirements at 45 days.  In other countries with half-year reporting, many companies still partially report quarterly.

Love. Fear. Inflation. A Precious Metals' Trifecta / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: MoneyMetals

By David Smith: Going forward, there are – and will continue to be – three primary drivers of global physical gold (and silver) demand.

During certain times in the past only one or two of these elements provided most of the momentum.

However, as we move into 2019, and for possibly the next 5-10 years, all three will be in play. They will operate synergistically to consistently motivate increased precious metals' buying around the globe. This will happen, even as meeting that demand with sufficient new supply becomes problematic.

GDX, This Most-Hated Stock Could Return You 140% in Just a Few Months / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Stephen_McBride

Opportunities like this are rare. I study markets for a living and I see one setup like it a year, at the most.

But will you listen to me? Will you buy the stock I recommend in this article?

I hope so… because there’s a realistic shot to make roughly 140% in just a few months.

But there’s a catch.

Thanksgiving for Proper Gold Stock Fundamentals / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Gary_Tanashian

All through the bear market hopeful rationalizations were served up for a bullish case on the gold miners. All through the bear market we warned people not to eat that rotten turkey!

China demand, the China and India “love trade”, cyclical inflation driving up the prices of commodities and resources and the classic… economic growth in the US will create cost-push inflation through wage increases with the smart money seeking inflation protection in gold. All of those and a veritable Turducken of mishmashed ingredients were served to gold bugs as a decidedly not delectable appetizer before the main course.

How to Catch Bottoms in Gold Stocks / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

It is very difficult to pick exact bottoms but there are many tools we can use to help us pinpoint potential bottoms.

You don’t hear technical analysts talk about fundamentals but we do for a reason. Major shifts in the primary trend are supported by fundamental shifts, though they can be very hard to spot until after the fact.

Because of our extensive study of history, we are convinced that precious metals will not begin a real bull market until the Fed stops hiking rates. The data shows that many times (though not every time) the gold stocks bottomed soon after the Fed’s final rate hike.

GDX Gold Mining Stocks Q3 18 Fundamentals / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The major gold miners’ stocks remain mired in universal bearishness, largely left for dead.  They are just wrapping up their third-quarter earnings season, which proved challenging.  Lower gold prices cut deeply into cash flows and profits, and production-growth struggles persisted.  But these elite companies did hold the line on costs, portending soaring earnings as gold recovers.  Their absurdly-cheap stock prices aren’t justified.

Gold Stocks Winter Rally / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The gold miners’ stocks suffered a rough late summer this year.  A rare forced capitulation walloped them to deep new lows, short-circuiting their usual autumn rally.  That’s left this sector anomalously low as the subsequent winter rally gets underway, gold stocks’ strongest seasonal surge of the year.  Starting from beaten-down levels after skipping the prior seasonal rally gives gold stocks exceptionally-bullish upside potential.

Seasonality is the tendency for prices to exhibit recurring patterns at certain times during the calendar year.  While seasonality doesn’t drive price action, it quantifies annually-repeating behavior driven by sentiment, technicals, and fundamentals.  We humans are creatures of habit and herd, which naturally colors our trading decisions.  The calendar year’s passage affects the timing and intensity of buying and selling.

Gold Stocks are Not Close to Bottom / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

It has been a rough year for gold stock investors.

Since Gold failed to break to the upside and the US Dollar bottomed, gold stocks have been in a strong downtrend. In September they hit two and a half year lows.

The oversold condition since then has been corrected but that rebound has been quite weak.

Evidence of that can be seen in the GDX advance decline (A/D) line (an important breadth indicator) which is showing a negative divergence and hit a new low on Wednesday.

Win Big in Gold and Silver without “Buying the Bottom” / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: MoneyMetals

Last month in this space, I penned an essay titled "Are Silver and Gold 'at the Flood'"?. A few weeks later, two other essays on another widely-read site discussed this topic from the same perspective and sourcing – a case of "great minds thinking along similar lines"?

Please take time to read or review that Money Metals Exchange Post of August 28.

I made the case of a misalignment in the precious metals' markets regarding price versus value which had become so pronounced that – in the near term – an explosive change in trend catching most participants by surprise was pretty much baked into the cake.

Gold Stocks Sentiment Shifting / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The gold miners’ stocks have been largely ignored and neglected for years.  Speculators and investors wanted little to do with them for various reasons.  But that apathetic sentiment is finally starting to shift thanks to last week’s stock-market plunge.  Capital is starting to return to this battered sector as traders begin to realize how radically undervalued it is.  Sentiment mean reversions can catapult gold stocks far higher.

Sentiment is defined as “a thought, view, or attitude, especially one based mainly on emotion instead of reason”.  We humans are inherently-emotional creatures riddled with sentiment on almost everything.  That’s especially true in our perceptions of the financial markets, which heavily influence if not dominate our trading decisions.  We buy and sell stocks when it feels good, when markets appear to validate our outlooks.

Checking Gold Stocks Valuations / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

It’s no secret that gold mining stocks are historically cheap and have been for several years.

Traditional metrics like price to cash flow and price to book value showed that gold stocks in late 2015 were at arguably their cheapest points since the start of the bull market in the 1960s.

Other metrics showed gold stocks to be the cheapest since the Roosevelt administration.

It has been almost a year since we examined some of these charts and with the sector moving closer to another epic low, we wanted an update.

Determining the Outlook for Gold Mining Stock / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: P_Radomski_CFA

Gold miners completed the inverse head-and-shoulders pattern – it’s now a fact. And many analysts would have one believe that it’s the only fact that matters right now or that it’s of major importance. But just like focusing on one tree can make one miss the entire forest behind it, the above could make the entire precious metals outlook appear different than it really is. There are multiple factors in place and we will not cover all of them in this essay, but even in case of the mining stocks, there are many factors that gold promoters and those who put a lot of weight in the inverse H&S pattern in mining stocks, are usually not mentioning in their analyses. We’ll discuss some of those factors below.

Stock Markets Last Cheap Sector - Gold / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

The lofty stock markets suffered a sharp selloff this week that may prove a major inflection point.  There was one lone sector that bucked the heavy selling to surge in the carnage, the gold miners’ stocks.  They are the last cheap sector in these bubble-valued stock markets, long overlooked and neglected.  Wildly undervalued today, the gold stocks have great potential to soar dramatically even if stock markets keep weakening.

Just several weeks ago, the US stock markets hit new all-time record highs stoking universal euphoria.  The flagship S&P 500 broad-market stock index (SPX) closed at 2930.8 in late September, extending its monstrous bull to 333.2% over 9.5 years.  That made for the 2nd-largest and 1st-longest in US stock-market history!  It also left these markets dangerously overvalued, literally trading at bubble valuations.

Gold GDX Is Being Torn Apart / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Avi_Gilburt

Rising interest rates are good for metals. Rising interest rates are bad for metals. We have heard the arguments from both sides. In fact, I think it is no different when people claim inflation is good for gold relative to those who believe deflation is good for gold.

Personally, I don’t think either side is correct, as we have seen periods of time where both sides were seemingly correct. That means we have seen periods of time where both sides were seemingly wrong. So, what does that tell you?

Here’s Why Gold Stocks, Gold, and Silver Are Great Buys Now / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2018

By: Frank_Holmes

Welcome to this week’s Market Wrap Podcast, I’m Mike Gleason. Coming up we’ve got a wonderful interview with Frank Holmes, CEO of U.S. Global Investors. Frank talks about some key developments in the gold community and why he believes a key merger in the gold mining industry could be a good indicator of a market bottom. He also shares his thoughts about Vanguard’s recent decision that leaves many gold investors hung out to dry. This is a must-hear interview with Frank Holmes, coming up after this week’s market update.

Precious metals markets struggled this week against the forces of rising bond yields and a stronger U.S. dollar. Where have we heard that before? Despite these headwinds, gold is holding up pretty well as it trades around the $1,200 level in a narrow range where it’s been locked in for the past month.
