Don't Invest in an Stock Index Tracker, Stick with Defensive Stocks / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: MoneyWeek

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleJuly was a very good month for the UK stock market – the best in more than six years, in fact.

The FTSE 100 rose by 8.5% during the month, as more and more investors flip from bearish to bullish, scared of being left behind by the rally. And with the banks set to report a rebound in profits (however artificial) this week, the cheer may well continue. Barclays has already set the scene this morning with a pre-tax profit of nearly £3bn for the first half of this year.

Is this a Stocks Bull Market? / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Michael_Swanson

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMy take on the stock market changed last week, because I started to buy and recommend some stocks, something I haven't done in a long time. The economy is still bad and I don't see any signs of a real recovery yet and certainly not a sustainable economic expansion, but it appears that the stock market is just going to keep going higher anyway. I do not need to know why to make money. You make money stock trading in the market by staying aligned with the market trend until the market proves you wrong. And it looks like the overall intermediate-term trend is up.

Recession Investing With Sector ETFs / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Money_and_Markets

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleRon Rowland writes: Right now the U.S. is in a deep recession. None of us know for sure when it will end, and the short-term indicators are inconclusive. Yet there is one thing I’ve learned from years of investing: The stock market is not just a big monolith. It’s a complex machine with lots of moving parts — and they don’t all move together.

Stocks Bear Market Low is Now Behind Us- Ignore the ‘Noise’ / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Puru_Saxena

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe recent market action suggests that the bear-market low is now behind us.

Over the past few days, most of the stronger emerging markets broke out to new recovery highs.  Furthermore, over the past couple of days, even the lagging stock markets in the West managed to climb to new recovery highs. It is noteworthy that yesterday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average break through its overhead resistance and closed above the psychologically important 9,000 level.

Closed End Funds, A Safer Way to Buy Stocks / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Q1_Publishing

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe last few days have sent a lot of investors scurrying back to the sidelines.

The correction, which I’ve been calling the most widely anticipated correction in years, has reignited fears that even an anemic recovery might be farther away than most investors expect.

How to Make Money on the Summer Stocks & Commodities Rally / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Uncommon_Wisdom

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleSean Brodrick writes: These are not normal markets — take what you know about how the market moves on fundamentals and throw them out the window, where they will probably drown in a flood of government money.

The government is spending so much money that, according to USA Today, taxpayers are on the hook for an extra $55,000 a household to cover rising federal commitments made just in the past year. That’s a rise of $6.8 trillion in new obligations in 2008 alone!

Long-term Review of Stock & Commodity Bull Markets, Alternating Leadership / Stock-Markets / Investing 2009

By: Donald_W_Dony

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleOver the past 120 years, there has been a constant shifting of leadership between stocks and commodities. From 1875 to 1905, the U.S. stock market provided greater relative performance than raw materials. This changed to highlight commodities over equities from 1905 to 1920. The crown shifted back to stocks throughout the 1920s only to lose that leadership again to natural resources from 1930 to 1946. Stocks, once again, offered greater relative performance over commodities in the the late 1940s and continue to prove superior until 1965 where raw material prices took the leadership back from stocks and provided higher returns for investors until 1982.
