Global Asset Trends for 2010, Commodity Market Forecasts / Commodities / Investing 2010
Every year, I write a review issue in January with my summary of past trends, and my predictions for the new year. I was pleased to see that most of my calls were correct. Last year, I predicted the rebound in the commodity sector, especially the surge in precious metals and oil. Grain supplies were tight as I anticipated, especially in soybeans, and stock markets were extremely volatile. In the US, bailouts and foreclosures continued, while the vaunted stimulus plan failed to create jobs or have much impact on the real economy.

Where Jim Rogers is Investing His Money in 2010 / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
Investment Guru Jim Rogers says the Indian stock market has run up a lot. "I won't buy shares at these levels." He has a similar view on emerging markets, except China.
Though he currently owns Chinese shares, he is a tad negative on the economy. "The Chinese economy needs to cool." He feels real estate in China is getting into a bubble zone.

Stocks Portfolio Relative Returns vs. Absolute Returns / Portfolio / Investing 2010
Monty Agarwal writes: The term “relative returns” refers to returns as compared to a benchmark index. Most money managers, such as mutual funds, will aim to produce returns that beat a benchmark, e.g. the S&P 500 or the Nasdaq 100.

The Coming BioTech Stock Market Investment Bubble / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
In last Friday's letter, I said that I had not bought any single stocks in the last decade, preferring funds and managers, and in general I still do. However, I am now going to start buying a specific asset class this month and currently plan to add to those holdings at least every quarter for several years. This is the high risk portion of my portfolio, so it will not be all that large a percentage. (Do not write and ask me what the right percentage is. It will be different for everybody. For some of you the answer will be none, as you need to be taking very little risk. Consult your investment professionals.).

How to Profit From the 2010 Road Map to Economic Recovery / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
Jon D. Markman writes: Getting both sides of a bear market and recovery right is the biggest test that investors face because it requires doing an about-face on a winning strategy.
The ideal investor would have sold in October 2007 when stocks were making new all-time highs, then stayed out of all subsequent rallies during the worst bear market in seven decades, and then bought back into the market at its once-unimaginable low after not just the wheels of the economy had fallen off, but seemingly the engine, doors and steering wheel as well.

Which Financial Stocks ETF Is Best For You? / Companies / Investing 2010
If you chose to supplement your sector-diversified core US equities stock holdings with a diversified financial stocks ETF, which one is best for you?
There are eight possibilities, four of which work for many investors, but only 2 (maybe 3) or 1 (maybe 2) of which work for large accounts. The fund that works for just about any account under $250 million is XLF. The other three funds are VFH, IYG and maybe IXG for some account. The four funds have more favorable profiles considering these three attributes in combination:

Tom Dyson writes: If you want to know what's going on in the economy, you need to watch the price of lumber...
Housing is the most important asset class in America. When house prices fall, banks fail, consumers cut back, unemployment rises, and the economy collapses. But when house prices are strong, the economy rebounds.

The Chinese OBESSION with Video Games Offers Investment Opportunities 2010 / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
My sister calls them Asian nerds. She is talking about some of our single Asian male friends who spend most of their spare time playing games, like golf and video games, instead of meeting girls.
My three boys have a little bit of that nerd in them, too. They are great kids, but one of the things that we regularly butt heads over is how much time they spend playing video games. They’d play all day long if I let them.

Inflationary Commodity Super Cycle Bull Market Ready to Rumble in 2010 / Commodities / Investing 2010
The colossal V-shaped recovery of the global stock markets in 2009 was indeed, the most remarkable feat, ever engineered by the “Plunge Protection Team,” (PPT). Step by step, the Federal Reserve, the US Treasury, and its key allies in the “Group-of-20” nations, rescued the world’s top financiers from their own greedy mistakes. The staggering size of the G-20’s rescue package, totaling about $12-trillion, was equal to a fifth of the entire world’s annual economic output.

Commodites Bull Market Will Roar Like a Tiger in 2010 / Commodities / Investing 2010
Headline Trends
2010, a year of the Tiger for the Chinese starts with accentuated 'Asian decoupling' relative to OECD countries, where slow economic recovery from the 2008-2009 recession is presently the norm. Further into 2010 this may change, becoming inflation-pulled economic growth for the OECD group, with serious risks of 'interest rate medicine' being applied by central bankers.

Which Sectors Will Lead the Stocks Bull Market During 2010 / Stock-Markets / Investing 2010
Jon D. Markman writes: Digging beneath the surface of the late 2009 market for clues, we find that some measures of breadth continue to deteriorate even as the major indices continue to float near their highs. For example, the percentage of stocks above their 10-day moving average has gone from 81% on Christmas Eve to 71% now. This is an indication that buyers have become more selective.
