Germany’s Grand Coalition Is Collapsing / Politics / Germany

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : Germany has the fourth-largest economy in the world and the largest in Europe.

This country has been the stable center of the European system for decades. Amid social and political tensions that have torn the European Union since 2008, Germany has been the solid rock on which Europe has rested.

Can Germany Be Made Great Again? / Politics / Germany

By: Antonius_Aquinas

When Germany Was Great!

Ever since the start of the deliberately conceived “migrant crisis,” orchestrated by NWO elites, the news out of Germany has been, to say the least, horrific.  Right before the eyes of the world, a country is being demographically destroyed through a coercive plan of mass migration.  The intended consequences of this – financial strain, widespread crime and property destruction, the breakdown of German culture – will continue to worsen if things are not turned around.

This Chart Explains Why Germany’s Economic Stability Depends On The US / Economics / Germany

By: John_Mauldin

In our 2017 forecast, we predicted that German exports will fall in 2017, which will weaken Berlin's trade position and slow down economic growth.

However, the latest reports from the German central bank and two other influential institutions have challenged our forecast on two fronts.

First, the German reports say that exports will continue to rise. Second, the German reports insisted that it is the domestic drivers that have made German growth stable.

German - US Bond Market Spreads and Sentiment / Interest-Rates / Germany

By: Ashraf_Laidi

Putting aside hard and soft data, yield differentials continue to command FX markets as the German-US 10 year yield spread breaks above its 200-day MA for the 1st time since August to hit -1.90%. The story, however, is not only in the break of the average, but also in the fact that the formation of the spread consists of higher lows and higher highs since the December bottom, which is the same formation for EURUSD, gold and most "anti-USD" instruments.

How The Slowing Shipping Industry Could Spark A Banking Crash In Germany / Economics / Germany

By: John_Mauldin

BY ANTONIA COLIBASANU : In geopolitics, events rarely occur in isolation.

Several stories about German exports, banks, and the shipping industry recently appeared in the media. But these stories do not gain their full significance unless taken as part of a bigger picture.

Here’s How Germany Buys Time From China / Economics / Germany

By: John_Mauldin

BY JACOB SHAPIRO : As we’ve written before, Germany’s economy has avoided problems besetting most export-dependent countries in the last two years.

In 2015, Germany accomplished this by compensating for decreased demand from China by substantially increasing its exports to the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2016, the situation was reversed. Exports to China increased while exports to the US and UK declined significantly.

3 Signs the German Economy Is Falling Apart / Economics / Germany

By: John_Mauldin

Germany is the world’s fourth-largest economy. It is also Europe’s largest economy, and any European economic recovery depends a great deal on Germany’s trajectory.

Germany is also the third-largest exporter in absolute terms in the G20 and is nearly as dependent on exports as Saudi Arabia and South Korea.  The country, therefore, must export vast amounts to maintain social and political stability.

VW's Scandal Comes at a Bad Time For Germany / Companies / Germany

By: Rodney_Johnson

The German economy has been nothing if not impressive. In the face of ugly economic circumstances across Europe, this country held fast to fiscal discipline while staying on track with exports. Hence, Germany ran budget surpluses for the last three years and has a cost of capital so low that its bond yields rival that of Japan.

Then, out of nowhere, comes a claim of corporate cheating that rocked iconic Volkswagen, the “People’s Car” company, maker of the famous Beetle.

Merkel’s Next Big Headache: Volkswagen’s ‘Defeat Device’ / Companies / Germany

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Angela Merkel has another huge headache on her plate. She seems to attract those these days. And given how she’s been dealing with the last few migraines coming her way, perhaps she deserves them.

For now, it’s a story of one carmaker, Volkswagen. And in one country, the USA. A country in which the diesel engine is somewhat of an orphan, making up just a few percent of the total car market. But the “defeat device” scandal will not stop there.

Bill Gross - German 10-Year Bunds Short of a Life Time / Interest-Rates / Germany

By: Bloomberg

Bill Gross of Janus Capital spoke with Bloomberg Television's Alix Steel about yields on the 10-year German bund, his bet against German debt and the European Central Bank's program of quantitative easing.

On shorting the bund, Gross said: "Most investors would probably want to wait for 12 to 18 months because that's when the Eurozone and the ECB's quantitative easing program ends. And one of the reasons for the overvaluation of bunds has to do with Mario Draghi and his program of EUR60 billion a month in terms of buying power. And so you don't want to fight the Fed or the ECB, I suppose, and then getting in early is doing that to a certain extent."

Greece Euro-zone Crisis, Ukraine - Germany Emerges / Politics / Germany

By: STRATFOR

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, accompanied by French President Francois Hollande, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Feb. 6. Then she met with U.S. President Barack Obama on Feb. 9. The primary subject was Ukraine, but the first issue discussed at the news conference following the meeting with Obama was Greece. Greece and Ukraine are not linked in the American mind. They are linked in the German mind, because both are indicators of Germany's new role in the world and of Germany's discomfort with it.

Germany’s Bad Economic Numbers Are Great News For All Of Us / Economics / Germany

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Something’s happening in Europe that I would like to cheer and encourage at the top of my lungs. While only yesterday, most European leaders, the ECB and the IMF were busy chiding Germany for not lowering taxes or increasing government investment in its economy, today’s release of German economic data should either shut them up or drastically change their tune.

Germany Fights on Two Fronts to Preserve the Eurozone / Politics / Germany

By: STRATFOR

The European Court of Justice announced Sept. 22 that hearings in the case against the European Central Bank's (ECB) bond-buying scheme known as Outright Monetary Transactions (OMT) will begin Oct. 14. Though the process is likely to be lengthy, with a judgment not due until mid-2015, the ruling will have serious implications for Germany's relationship with the rest of the eurozone. The timing could hardly be worse, coming as an anti-euro party has recently been making strides in the German political scene, steadily undermining the government's room for maneuver.

German Dax 10000 New All Time High? / Stock-Markets / Germany

By: Gregor_Horvat

Most of the FX markets are still slow and choppy within corrective price action, while metals and stocks are trading completely on their own. We have seen a push to a new high on the S&P 500 yesterday, very close to 1920. At the same time German DAX remained trapped in range because of low volume during the European session. Some would have thought that the S&P can be in final stages here within bigger uptrend, but if we consider that DAX is still in fourth wave then we need to be aware of even higher swings on US markets.

German DAX: Correcting Within Uptrend / Stock-Markets / Germany

By: Gregor_Horvat

We have seen some risk-off moves on European markets with the Dax falling more than 100 points on the day down to 9500 where recent support was found. From an Elliott Wave perspective we see the Dax in an expanded flat correction with wave (c) now underway down to 9430-9470 support area. Wave (c) also needs to be made by five subdivisions so looks like there is room for more weakness before corrective pullback can be finished.

A More Assertive German Foreign Policy / Politics / Germany

By: STRATFOR

By George Friedman and Marc Lanthemann: The Ukrainian crisis is important in itself, but the behavior it has elicited from Germany is perhaps more important. Berlin directly challenged Ukraine's elected president for refusing to tighten relations with the European Union and for mistreating Ukrainians who protested his decision. In challenging President Viktor Yanukovich, Berlin also challenged Russia, a reflection of Germany's recent brazen foreign policy.
