Whoever figures out a way to get those billions online will likely have created a profit gold mine.

Spain's Publishing Industry Commits Internet Suicide as Google Quits News / Politics / Internet
Spain at the heart of a luddite Europe Union has forced Google to quit its news service following its law makers succumbing to Spain's lunatic publishing industry that was expecting profit from taxing Google for every news story that it linked to on Google News as of 1st of Jan 2015. That's just for posting the title of news stories with a short snippet to prompt google news searchers to link through to the source content, a lot of free traffic that Spain's publishing industry had greatly profited from.

William Patalon III writes: Part of our investment "thesis" with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: BABA) is that the e-commerce giant has designs on markets besides China.

Amazon Stock Biting Off More Than It Can Chew? / Companies / Internet
Zachary Scheidt writes: Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is one of the best growth stocks of our generation. Over the last 10 years alone, revenues have grown from $6.3 billion to more than $80 billion per year. Yet despite all the revenue, profits have been absent.
Jeff Bezos, the company’s founder and CEO, built his empire by growing revenues with the promise of profits. His strategy has been to aggressively cut prices (at the expense of profits) to gain market share. Thus far, the strategy has made the company into a retail powerhouse. Bezos hopes to repeat this success with the company’s new business lines.

Newsflash: Everyone Shops Online These Days! / Companies / Internet
Antiquated Retail Sales Reports
It is obvious that retail sales numbers are going to be awful for eternity because they are antiquated reports that fail to adequately capture the changing consumer trend of shopping online. Practically nobody is going to waste their leisure time going to a physical store when they can save time, gasoline, and easily search for the best price in a matter of minutes versus spending hours driving all over town in search of the best price or deal with mall parking. The Physical store business is dead, unless one needs to get a haircut, or a good grocery delivery business hasn`t yet arrived in your area.

The Email System the NSA Can’t Access / Companies / Internet
Ted Baumann writes: It’s been a busy month on the privacy front.
For starters, word got out on August 5 that Russian hackers stole 1.2 billion user names and passwords across several kinds of websites. Then Facebook got into hot water — again — when it decided to force its risky Messenger app on unwilling users. Meanwhile, a U.S. senator warned that users of wearable fitness-tracking devices are unprotected by any privacy law, putting them at serious risk. And the European Union is poised to counter a U.S. court order demanding Microsoft hand over data stored inside its Irish servers.
