Tesla - TSLA Discounting the Future - Stock Price Analysis Forecast 2023 / Companies / Auto Sector

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Ai Stocks Portfolio

A quick look at the current state of my portfolio which is now 88.5% invested after arrival of approx 5% of fresh cash and after I sold all of my NBIX holding given that it earlier retreated from a multi year high, and that it tends to trade within a range of $125 to $76. I have update the table to indicate when columns were last updated. I have also replaced the beta column with something more useful called Future Growth (1-10), which is basically how I see the COMPANY doing in terms of future growth potential where 10 is the highest and 1 is the lowest, note this does not mean that the stock prices will match growth potential due to a myriad of factors such as sentiment, valuation and politics, but it gives insight into the underlying prospects for the businesses where the two stocks that score 10 are AMD and TSMC which is why I am heavily invested in both and don't fret about stock price drops in either as recently experienced because the underlying businesses have huge long-term future growth potential. Stocks that score 9 are Nvidia, Facebook, ASML and IBM, which again means I am not too phased by what we recently witnessed with the likes of META and and Nvidia, stock prices rarely reflect the actual state of the underlying business as they oscillate between extreme fear and extreme FOMO as illustrated when one watches the Cartoon Network (CNBC).

Nissan to Create 1000s of jobs with electric vehicle investment in UK / Companies / Auto Sector

By: Boris_Dzhingarov

Nissan is set to give the UK its first electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing base with the expected announcement of the country’s first “gigafactory” in Sunderland. The futuristic sounding gigafactory – which is the name given to any facility where EV manufacturers can produce batteries for their cars – will create thousands of jobs in the Sunderland area, but perhaps more poignantly give the UK a much-needed boost in an EV race in which it is fast falling behind.

The government has pledged an undisclosed contribution to the project – which is expected to cost hundreds of millions of pounds – such is the importance of the move. The introduction of the factory ties in with the UK’s wider green initiatives, which includes the upcoming ban of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030 as part of the government’s sustainable ten-point plan.

Elon Musk Mocks Nikola Motors as “Dumb.” Is He Right? / Companies / Auto Sector

By: John_Mauldin

Justin Spittler :  “Staggeringly dumb.”

That’s the latest insult Elon Musk threw at Nikola Motors (NKLA), which has rocketed a crazy 500%+ since April. Love him or hate him, no one denies Musk is a genius. He built Tesla (TSLA)—easily the world’s most innovative car company—from scratch. When he’s not running Tesla, he works a “side job” as a rocket scientist for his private space company, SpaceX.

So, you’d think only fools would bet against Musk. But that’s what we’ve been doing lately. No, we haven’t been “shorting” Tesla. Instead, we invested big in hydrogen energy—including Nikola Motors.

What Do Crashing RV Sales Tell Us About 2020? / Economics / Auto Sector

By: Rodney_Johnson

RV sales are crashing at a year-over-year rate of 20% below sales for the same period last year. 2017 was the peak thus far and 2018 sales were 4% lower. Hence, this year’s crash is making this look like a clear top.

RVs are one of our mid-life-to-retirement sectors for Boomers. Sales used to peak at age 63, but the most recent updates to the Consumer Expenditure Survey show them peaking a bit earlier, at age 59-60. That still makes it a strong growth industry into 2020-2021 for aging Boomers.

Here’s Why You Should Drive a Piece of Crap Car / Personal_Finance / Auto Sector

By: Jared_Dillian

I was unhappily scrolling through Facebook the other day and saw that one of my smart friends had posted a dumb article about the excellent Toronto Raptors basketball player who, despite making nearly a hundred million dollars, still drives a 20-year-old beater SUV.

He said of the car: “It runs… and it’s paid off.”

The second part of that statement is crucial. There is nothing better than a paid-off car. There is no monthly payment, and most of the depreciation has already occurred. You are driving for free.

British Car Maker Aston Martin License to Thrill No More / Companies / Auto Sector

By: EWI

By Murray Gunn

The luxury British car maker Aston Martin has learned a hard lesson; namely, diamonds may be forever, but the market for $400,000 cars is not. A February 28 Guardian article confirms that since going public on the London Stock Exchange last October, Aston Martin's shares have plummeted 40% amidst billions of dollars in losses. To be fair, some of the loss can be attributed to the company's IPO costs, but we believe that where there's smoke, there's fire. The IPO, in and of itself, is a splendid signal that the credit cycle, and the positive social mood which fueled a massive expansion of credit and rising stock values, is undergoing a bearish shift. A fall in Aston Martin's fortunes equally represents a fall out of favor of one of the most recognizable bull market icons -- Bond, James Bond.

Real Reason for Land Rover Crisis is Poor Quality of Build / ConsumerWatch / Auto Sector

By: N_Walayat

Land Rover is under severe distress due to a collapse in sales. In my opinion I think Land Rover is deing due to poor quality of build. For instance a car thats 2 years old should NOT have bubbling paint work! So here's what you need to know before buying an approved used Land Rover in 2019. My comprehensive review after having owned and driven Land Rover's popular Discovery Sport's model (HSE Black trim) for over 1 year. Now knowing what I should have known a year earlier of what to look out for, with the video covering the following topics -

Jaguar Land Rover to Start Dumping Production of Car's in Eastern Europe / Companies / Auto Sector

By: N_Walayat

Land Rover owners and drivers got some very bad news this week as Indian (Tata) owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced it's intentions to start dumping production of their cars in Eastern Europe, specifically Slovakia starting with the Discovery Model with the loss of about 1000 jobs in the UK that is in addition to 1000 job losses announced in April, so this year has seen JLR slash 2000 jobs or prospective Land Rover buyers from the UK. JLR is the UK's largest remaining car manufacturer and so in the name of 'saving money' they are going to transfer production to factories in eastern europe.

When Will Electric Cars Take Over The Roads? / Companies / Auto Sector

By: OilPrice_Com

The age of the electric vehicle (EV) will be here sooner than you think.

Out of 1 billion cars in the world, only 2 million are electric. But that will soon change, as costs diminish, and more governments encourage the adoption of EVs to cut carbon emissions and fight urban pollution.

According to Bloomberg, by 2040, 54 percent of all new car sales will be for EVs. Millions of new EVs will take a big bite out of oil demand and displace 8 million barrels of transport fuel (gasoline and diesel) every day.

The latest monthly motor vehicle sales report released on July 3 paints a grim picture for US car sales. Overall June sales dropped by 3% compared to June of last year—the sixth successive month of lower year-over-year sales.

General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler were among the greatest losers with declines between 4.7% and 7%. Japan’s top sellers fared a little better, with Nissan seeing 2% growth and Toyota a 2.1% gain.

10 Million Self-Driving Cars Will Hit The Road By 2020, Here’s How To Profit / Companies / Auto Sector

By: David_Galland

Given the advanced state of driverless technologies and the amount of money being poured into the sector, there is little question—make that, no question at all—that within 10 years, driverless cars will be the norm.

The implications are immense and widespread.

There are currently about 1.4 billion cars on the road. Many of those cars, and eventually all, are going to be replaced by self-driving vehicles.

By: OilPrice_Com

As Tesla fires up itsUS$5-billion battery gigafactory to mass produce lithium-ion batteries in a historical turning point, lithium prices are set to explode, there has never been a better year to be a lithium company.

Tesla began mass production of lithium-ion batteries in the first week of January 2017, and by the end of the year it will have led to a doubling of global battery production capacity. By 2018, Tesla predicts it will churn out 35 gigawatts of batteries per year. It’s a massive amount that surpasses more than what the rest of the world combined produces.
