BACK TO SCHOOL - UK Coronavirus Lockdown Ending - Summer Holidays & Booming Economy Ahead / Politics / Coronavirus 2021

UK lockdown is ending! The kids are all back to school starting Monday 8th March, soon followed by outdoor sports facilities, then shops with the bulk of opening including Universities to resume teaching students after Easter so in about 2 months now, by Mid May we will be largely be living in post pandemic lockdown's world when we can all soon go on holiday at home and abroad with our vaccine passports which should mark the start of a 2 year economic boom, given pent up demand and £400 billion of money printing to date. Though with 5 million on furlough then despite the coming boom unemployment will increase as 5 million workers find out whether they still have a job or not.
Yes masks will still need to be worn for some time and mass testing will continue especially wherever variants are detected nevertheless the end is now in sight all courtesy Britains highly successful vaccines programme where the UK literally leads the world, out vaccinating every major developed nation with the United States not far behind.

Despite pandemic fatigue and complacency in too many countries, vaccine inequality will penalize poorer economies, which are also likely to prove more vulnerable to new variants.
In the past month or two, too many countries struggling with COVID-19 have been lulled into fatigue and complacency, despite holiday spikes. Since vaccination drives have begun, the assumption is that pandemic challenge is pretty much behind.
Both assumptions are flawed. Vaccine drives in emerging and developing economies will occur significantly later than in advanced economies. And by then, new variants may test vaccine effectiveness.

The mainstream press has gone off on a tangent where the story being peddled by the likes of the BBC to explain the lack of uptake of vaccinations amongst Britain's Black and Asian communities being put down to ignorance, gullible brown people who are easily susceptible to fake news stories, whatsapp and twitter messages.
You want to know the real reason why black and asian ethnic minorities are reluctant to get vaccinated?
It's the same reason why if your Black or Asian you very quickly learn to be cautious of the Police, even if you are a victim of a crime, not to be trusted.

The UK and US continue to recover well from the pandemic with the EU experiencing a slower rate of recovery from the pandemic though from a much lower January peak. Meanwhile the likes of Brazil are doing their own thing and are heading towards new pandemic highs, where it should be noted that the quality of testing is far lower than in the UK, US and Europe so the number of cases are likely many times official figures which thus pose a risk of more variants appearing and spreading over the coming weeks and months.

Vaccine inequality: A new beginning or another missed opportunity? / Politics / Coronavirus 2021

Last year, four major opportunities to battle COVID-19 were missed. If vaccine inequality will prevail in the coming months, that would represent the fifth missed opportunity – with prohibitive human costs and economic damage.
Recently, I was virtually at the prestigious Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue (Vienna, Austria) and had a conversation with Ambassador Irene Giner-Reichl (for the video, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUcGG22B_YA ). The focus was on the missed opportunities and the future of the global pandemic future.
Recently, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sharply criticized the “wildly uneven and unfair” distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. Addressing the Security Council, Guterres noted that just 10 countries have administered 75% of all vaccinations. Meanwhile, 130 countries had not received a single dose.

Quick, efficient firefighting is a public good. Stopping contagious diseases is another public good. The public interest demands all fires—in all forms—be extinguished before they spread.
Now we have COVID-19 vaccines that, while imperfect, are generally safe and effective. We should deliver them with the same urgency with which we send fire trucks to every blaze.

In the coming months, vaccine nationalism is likely to compound COVID-19 economic damage and penalize more lives. It reflects the utter failure of multilateralism. It is old colonialism in a new disguise.
After mid-January, WHO chief Dr Tedros warned that, due to unequal COVID-19 vaccine policies, "the world is on the brink of a catastrophic moral failure and the price of this failure will be paid with lives and livelihoods in the world's poorest countries.”
And yet, in contrast, The Economist reported it was “Asian governments” that “are needlessly hampering vaccination drives,” due to their “nationalism and geopolitics.”
The simple reality is that by mid-January almost 40 million vaccine doses had been given in nearly 50 rich-income economies, whereas one poor nation had only 25 doses. As a result, 9 out of 10 people in poor countries are set to miss out on COVID-19 vaccine in 2021, according to Oxfam.

Lockdown-weary families were out in Endcliffe Park Sheffield despite freezing cold weather. But officers kept a close eye on them as they were on the beat in pairs wearing face coverings. It comes after a scientist advising the Government on coronavirus called for tighter lockdown restrictions.
Here we see Sheffield's Endcliffe Park densely packed with people as many make the most of the outdoors during the third national lockdown, despite the Government's message urging people to 'stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.'

To illustrate how incompetent Britain's government healthcare system, the NHS response to the chinese coronavirus pandemic has been is the fact that only now in late January 2021 is the NHS recommending that people who suspect they have coronavirus monitor their oxygen levels at home before becoming more seriously ill and calling an ambulance to take them to hospital. This is shocking, as something which was obvious from the outset that an respiratory illness demands that one monitors their oxygen levels which is why I and I presume many others bought such devices for less than £30 from Amazon some 10 months ago in March 2020. Rather than wait for medical establishment to give their go ahead some 10 months late in the final stages of the pandemic as this video illustrates.

Here's what it's like for infants, junior and secondary school pupils trying to learn at home during lockdown 2.0. The incompetent and negligent mismanagement of the Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in chaos and disorder at every corner of the failure of the education system to respond to the pandemic. First we have the 6 month lockdown from March to September 2020, as the schools FAILED to reopen in June, despite there being little or not risk of infection from the virus during the summer months. That at the start of 2021 was followed by the catastrophic third wave as the UK government once more lost control of the virus resulting in the panic shutdown of all schools, which whilst necessary to bring the pandemic under control nevertheless is once more doing huge damage the life prospects of Britain's school children as this vide of what the children of Sheffield's schools are experiencing (Dobcroft example), as lockdown 2.0 could continue until after EASTER 2021!

Half a century later, Houston is a problem as some of its largest hospitals reach 100% ICU occupancy. Ditto for many other cities around the US.
This is a problem and it’s getting worse.
Meanwhile, the same pandemic that is filling hospitals is also killing jobs. The latest employment report showed the US lost 140,000 jobs in December. We are still down almost 10 million jobs since last winter.
