Joe Biden’s Executive Order is Great for This “Backdoor EV” Play / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Stephen_McBride

Did you hear Joe Biden’s big announcement?

He recently signed an executive order for half of all new car sales in America to be electric by 2030.

This is great news for electric automakers like Tesla, right?

Just as gas guzzling cars made early Ford and GM shareholders rich, the transition to electric vehicles will do the same for a new class of EV stocks.

But I don’t recommend buying Tesla, or any other automaker, today.

There’s an even more lucrative way to profit from the coming electric car boom. One that will help you make money no matter who wins the EV race.

This stock has already handed Disruption Investor members 200%+ gains. And my research shows it could triple again as electric cars go mainstream.

TESLA Tech Stock Bubble BURSTS! Stock Price Heading for CRASH to below $400 / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The stock market is now entering my forecast window for a significant correction which should present an opportunity to accumulate into most the AI mega-trend stocks many of which have galloped ahead to new all time highs this year, trending in the opposite direction to the much higher risk stocks such as those that heavily populate the media blitzkrieging Cathy Wood's ARK funds i.e. their biggest holding Tesla is down 4.5% year to date whilst AI numero Uno Google is up 32%! Which this analysis seeks to resolve in high probability buying levels in advance of an expected correction during May.

Tesla Is the Underdog in the Electric Car Revolution / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Stephen_McBride

 If you’re not first… you’re last.

You may recognize this quote from fictional racecar driver Ricky Bobby. But it could easily be straight from a business school lecture.

Many professors preach the importance of “being first” in business.

But I have to tell you… it’s mostly a lie.

Microsoft introduced the first tablet computer in 2000. Apple didn’t unveil the iPad until a decade later.

The iPad has sold 360 million units… while the few “Tablet PCs” Microsoft sold are buried in junkyards.

“Friendster” started the world’s first major social network. Facebook didn’t come along until years later.

Are Cowboys Really Dreaming of... Electric Trucks? / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Rodney_Johnson

The title of this piece is a play on a book, but the question stands: Will cowboys, or anyone else who buys a truck, be interested in an electric version? Ford and GM are betting their companies on it, which could be a huge mistake.

A Truck-Loving Family

Somewhere along the way, we became a truck family. My wife wanted a small 4×4 to navigate flooded streets, which makes sense given where we live. She ended up with a Chevrolet Colorado, and couldn’t be happier. For whatever reason, my younger daughter always wanted a Ford F-150, so she drove off to college in a jacked up, 4×4 SuperCrew. Granted, it was used, but still pretty cool.

Cobalt to Share EV Battery Duties with Nickel / Commodities / Electric Cars

By: Richard_Mills

In the spring of 2018 Tesla came out with a bold prediction: bringing the amount of cobalt used in their Model 3 battery cells down to zero.

“Cells used in Model 3 are the highest energy density cells used in any electric vehicle. We have achieved this by significantly reducing cobalt content per battery pack while increasing nickel content and still maintaining superior thermal stability,” the company stated in its Q1 2018 update letter. “The cobalt content of our Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminum cathode chemistry is already lower than next-generation cathodes that will be made by other cell producers with a Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt ratio of 8:1:1,” Tesla boasted.

In the quest to reduce input costs, be socially responsible and to provide longer driving ranges, like Tesla, those other cell producers are wanting to reduce the amount of cobalt used in their EV batteries and increase the content of nickel. Typically EV batteries use NCA or NMC type lithium-ion - 60% of the world’s cobalt supply comes from the DRC where mining it is controversial.

Tesla is ahead of its competitors with respect to this switch. The company only uses 5% cobalt in their electric vehicle battery metals (the Model 3 uses 2.8% cobalt) versus 30% across the industry (eg. four times less than Volkswagen).

Harley Davidson Looking at Electric Bikes to Save the Day / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Rodney_Johnson

My father had a Harley in the mid-1980s, which I would ride from time to time. It was an ’83 Sportster, and it leaked oil, and the electrical system would cut off when you turned a corner.

Back then that was called “character.” Today, we’d call it sloppy workmanship.

Insiders bought the company from conglomerate AMF in the early 1980s, and by the end of the decade they’d returned the storied brand to its historical place – a well-made American icon.

What’s the Real Problem with Tesla? / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Rodney_Johnson

Bonds are an interesting financial animal.

With stocks, investors become part owners of a company, albeit usually at a very, very small level. We benefit as the company earns more revenue and profit, hopefully sending some of the cash back to us in the form of dividends, or using the funds to grow the company or, these days, buy back stock.

Could This Be The End for Tesla? / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Rodney_Johnson

Tesla, the nifty electric car company, and its larger-than-life founder, Elon Musk, proved something.

People around the world will pay gobs of money for very cool electric cars, even if they have limited range and take forever to charge. Americans in particular love new gadgets, and Teslas are the biggest gadgets of all.

Musk and company also proved something else.

Tesla, Electric Metals Hot- Gold Cold / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Plunger

While gold has has been down and out the electric metals have been all the rage, especially the cobalt plays.  Seems every month a new battery factory is announced and a new EV manufacturer announces its plans to enter the market.  With additional automotive capacity entering the market the collateral damage this week was the darling of the sector- Tesla.

Tesla– is it finally time for the shorts to be taken off the intensive care list?

Tesla - Can A Company Be Great And A Great Short? / Companies / Electric Cars

By: John_Rubino

One of the fascinating things about financial bubbles is how they transform great companies into screaming short sale candidates. Put another way, bear markets tend to throw even the prettiest babies out with the bathwater.

Here, for instance, is what happened to Cisco Systems, the dominant maker of networking gear (the devices that run the Internet) when the 1990s tech stock bubble burst, bankrupting many of its customers and causing its earnings to miss expectations. Its stock fell by more than three-fourths and those who had bought it during the previous year’s euphoria got hosed.

Big Oil Betting On Electric Vehicles / Companies / Electric Cars

By: OilPrice_Com

Speaking this week at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in New York, Total SA's chief energy economist, Joel Couse, forecasted that EVs will make up 15 to 30 percent of global new vehicle sales by 2030.

Oil demand for transportation fuel see its "demand will flatten out," after 2030, Couse said. "Maybe even decline."

Keeping The Electric Cars On The Road / Companies / Electric Cars

By: Andrew_McKillop

THE ROAD TO NOWHERE
Even if a large number of electric car producers - like Tesla Motor and Fisker Automotive - have major problems producing their cars, in the Fisker case having developed the ultimate dangerous car, the Karma which can burn under water and is banned from sale at present, the urgent pitch for all-electric cars continues. Favoured themes are that "we" must wean western society off oil and save the world's climate with "zero emission" cars (needing no fossil energy to produce, running on roads built with recycled bottle tops and organic household waste!), but the basic reason is a lot simpler.
