Choosing Your Path in This Financial Landscape / Personal_Finance / Investing 2017
I just turned off the television. There wasn’t anything wrong, there was just… nothing. As I go through my day, I stay tuned to CNBC, albeit with the sound down low, simply to have background activity. But today, I just can’t get there. I keep asking myself the same question when I hear their comments… so what?Usually I enjoy some of the banter, and I recognize that most of the people floating across the screen are very smart and accomplished. But I don’t feel edified. In my head I’m playing an endless loop of old quotes and comments that ends up sounding like a game of “Pick a Platitude.” It goes something like this:

BY STEPHEN MCBRIDE : With the S&P 500 up 260% since March 2009, investors have been well rewarded for holding US stocks in the recent past.
However, the prime time of US stocks has come to an end. Here’s why.

Looking For the Next Big Stock? Look at Design / Companies / Investing 2017
When it comes to market analysis, many investors know how to determine value by the numbers. Book value, P/E ratio, yearly revenue - these are all key numbers that value investors use to calculate a company’s intrinsic value. And while these factors are important and more investors should learn to use them, a numbers-first approach to analyzing a company for future growth potential leaves out some important observations. Perhaps most important of these is the company’s visual image, and how easy it is to understand and to use.

The 3 Best P2P Lending Platforms For Investors In 2017—Detailed Analysis / Companies / Investing 2017
BY STEPHEN MCBRIDE : Peer-to-peer lending (P2P) is a new method of debt financing that allows people to borrow and lend money without a financial institution. Harnessing technology and big data, P2P platforms connect borrowers to investors faster and cheaper than any bank.
P2P lending has grown rapidly in recent years and is a new source of fixed income for investors (download our new special report on investing in P2P loans for more). Compared to stock markets, P2P investments have less volatility and a low correlation. They also offer higher returns than conventional sources of yield.
With interest rates at all-time lows since 2008 and many historically “safe” investments like government bonds offering measly returns, investing in P2P loans in 2017 is a no-brainer.

Are Millennials Better Investors Than Boomers and Gen-Xers? / Stock-Markets / Investing 2017
Shannara Johnson : Poor, spoiled, disadvantaged Millennials.
The myth of the underdog youngster has been going around in the media for years.
He’s the poor schmuck who at age 32 still hunkers down in Mom and Dad’s basement because his post-graduate education only fetches him a position as PhD burger flipper at the Scottish restaurant chain which shall not be named.

The 3 Assets to Add to Your Stocks Portfolio in This Rate Tightening Cycle / Companies / Investing 2017
BY STEPHEN MCBRIDE : I’m surprised how things can turn upside down in a year, even twice.
Exactly a year ago, in the wake of Brexit, the US 10-Year Treasury rate fell to an all-time low of 1.36%. At that point, bond yields—which move inversely to their price—had been declining for eight years with no end in sight.
Then Trump won the US election; another unexpected twist. An uptick in inflation and a series of rate hikes followed shortly afterward, and the 10-year yield has risen 67% from its lows.

Overlooked Stock Investments To Keep An Eye On in 2017 / Companies / Investing 2017
The best returns in stock investment rarely come from the highly publicized companies. Fund managers are always looking for hidden or overlooked opportunities. This is exactly what we will talk about below. While many are focused on Donald Trump’s gold rally, companies that may or may not go public and defense industry predictions are just some of the areas where money is to be made. With that mind, here are some possible investments in overlooked stocks for 2017.

Here’s the Investing Reason Active Funds Can’t Beat Passive Funds—and It Worries Me a Lot / Stock-Markets / Investing 2017
I’ve touched on the issue of passive investing quite a few times. But this time, I want to show a few charts that illustrate the extent of the problems that are building up in the passive index world.
It is not just ETFs, but also index mutual funds and the enormous amount of pension and insurance funds, along with many trust funds, that are passively invested directly in stocks. They simply duplicate indexes.

With This Extent of Passive Investing, Even a Minor Correction Will Be Disastrous / Stock-Markets / Investing 2017
Last week, Doug Kass sent around an e-mail comparing today’s markets to Queen’s classic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” I know that seems odd, but it was actually a good fit.
The point is that, like the song says, “Nothing really matters” to whoever is buying stocks these days.
They just keep buying and pushing prices higher. Stock prices do go higher in a bull market, and sometimes, as the end approaches, they make value investors very uncomfortable.

Gold, Stocks, Bonds, Currencies Best Investment Practices / Stock-Markets / Investing 2017
How does one construct a portfolio in an era of seemingly ever rising and highly correlated asset prices? Years of asset prices moving higher has changed both retail and institutional investors; it has changed the industry; and, in my humble opinion, those changes spell trouble. The prudent investor might want to take note to be prepared.

Market Investments - No One Will Ever Care As Much as You / Stock-Markets / Investing 2017
I’m moving. And it’s a royal pain.Beyond the hassle of physically getting all of our stuff from one state (Florida) to another (Texas), I have to deal with a mortgage lender on the new house. At first, against my better judgment, I called Bank of America.
As I told the guy I spoke with, I’ve hated the bank for the entire 23 years I’ve been with them. There’s been way too many hassles for what should be simple business transactions.
