How American Socialism “Works” / Politics / US Politics

By: Money_Morning

Shah Gilani writes: America isn’t a socialist country, but don’t tell our President that, or Congress, or the Fed, or the too-big-to-fail (TBTF) banks. Because to them, it is.

That’s because socialism works for them. And Hells Bells, it’s hard to knock what works.

If you can’t feel the yoke around your neck, or the bit in your mouth, trust me…you will.

Did Israel Kill Arafat? / Politics / Middle East

By: Stephen_Lendman

On November 11, 2004, Arafat died in a Paris hospital. He was 75. He was hospitalized for an undiagnosed illness.

After developing, it worsened. He deteriorated badly. He needed special care. On November 3, he slipped into a coma. Days later he died.

Previous articles discussed his death. It wasn’t accidental. It wasn’t natural. Credible evidence points to assassination.

Monsanto’s Friends in High Places / Politics / Agricultural Commodities

By: MISES

Hunter Lewis writes: Many companies hope to send an employee into a government agency to influence regulation. How much better if the employee can actually shape government regulation to promote and sell a specific product! Monsanto seems to have accomplished this — and much more.

End Of The Line For Iran Nuclear Crisis-Business / Politics / Nuclear Weapons

By: Andrew_McKillop

World news media reported, November 7, that epic change could soon be coming to the seemingly endless – and dangerous – business of goading Iran and trying to spark a nuclear war in the Middle East, only to please Israel and Saudi Arabia.

'Wall Street Journal', November 7, ran this headline: “Geneva—Iran and world powers expect to announce an initial deal as early as Friday to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for an easing of sanctions, a step that would mark the first breakthrough in a decade to blunt the threat of Tehran developing nuclear weapons”.

U.S. Government - The Greatest Threat to Life on Earth / Politics / US Politics

By: Paul_Craig_Roberts

“No legal issue arises when the United States responds to a challenge to its power, position, and prestige.” Dean Acheson , 1962, speaking to the American Society of International Law.

Dean Acheson declared 51 years ago that power, position, and prestige are the ingredients of national security and that national security trumps law. In the United States democracy takes a back seat to “national security,” a prerogative of the executive branch of government.

Drone War Prize Obama And The Islamic-Judaic Apocalypse / Politics / Nuclear Weapons

By: Andrew_McKillop

THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION
As Nadeem wrote in his recent “US Drone War on Pakistan” the USA of Barack Obama, either wittingly or unwittingly, knowingly or not, has accelerated the final countdown in the tinderbox region called the MENA-Middle East and North Africa. To be sure this is a majority-Sunni muslim Arab region, but it also includes Iran and Israel. Europe is very close, like Turkey and Russia, making it what Halford John Mackinder called the “geographical pivot of history” and “the world island”.

Obamacare Taxes Will Hit Your Wallet January 1st / Politics / Taxes

By: Money_Morning

Tara Clarke writes: Even if Obamacare hasn't altered your insurance coverage, it will affect your taxes. The new healthcare law brings the largest set of tax law changes this country has seen in more than 20 years.

According to the Government Accountability Office, the IRS must implement a total 47 statutory provisions under Obamacare. And Obamacare's $1 trillion in total tax increases will hit drug companies, Health Savings Accounts, health insurers, employer-based health insurance, and more.

U.S. Drone War on Pakistan, Selling Nuclear Weapons Consequences, Islamic Apocalypse Countdown / Politics / Nuclear Weapons

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The near silent war that the mainstream media rarely reports rages on in Pakistan as illustrated by the recent drone attack that killed the Taliban leader in North West Pakistan the day before the Pakistani government was to enter into peace talks with. Whilst many may claim so what it's just one terrorist killing another. However what the drone strikes mask is what is called collateral damage, which according to the Centre for Naval Analysis has to date killed close to 5,000 people of which 9 out of 10 were civilians.

U.S. Jobs Outsourcing Paradigm / Politics / Employment

By: EconMatters

China-US Wealth Transfer

There are usually unintended consequences from paradigm shifts, and the outsourcing paradigm of the last 25 years has been no exception. Where do you think all that wealth responsible for building all those cities in China came from? The United States, European and other developed countries of the world, think of it as a vast wealth transfer from the richer nations to the poorer nations mainly on the backs of the ‘middle of the bell curve’ in terms of jobs.

Obamacare, Affordable Care Act (ACA) Dysfunctional System Issues / Politics / US Politics

By: John_Mauldin

The Affordable Care Act is the single most contentious political action of my lifetime since the Vietnam War. It touches everyone in one way or another, and often in profoundly personal ways. Some see it is a godsend and others as an arrow aimed directly at the heart of the American experiment. Some will experience healthcare that is now available for themselves and their families for the first time, while others will experience the loss of a system that had served them well. The story in the Wall Street Journal this week of the cancer survivor Edie Littlefield Sundby, who lost her doctors and affordable care in the middle of a true life-and-death battle, is poignant. It turns out that not only can she not buy insurance that will cross state lines, she cannot buy insurance in California that will cross county lines!

It's Bubble Time in Britain, A Tragic Story / Politics / UK Politics

By: BATR

Some things are simply so funny that they can't help showing us hidden truths. As anyone who's ever read Mark Twain or heard Groucho Marx, among many many other voices, will gladly confirm, funny things can make you think, and even reveal tragedy. Not necessarily thigh slapping stuff, just funny things. Fumbling through the Guardian's webpages on Tuesday, I found what I find is a fine example of just that. Plus, in the very same edition, a bunch of articles that provide an equally fine perspective.

China Reaching Limits of its Economic, Politician and Social Model, Change is Inevitable / Politics / China

By: STRATFOR

Rodger Baker and John Minnich write: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will convene its Third Plenum meeting Nov. 9. During the three-day session, President Xi Jinping's administration will outline core reforms to guide its policymaking for the next decade. The Chinese government would have the world believe that Xi's will be the most momentous Third Plenary Session since December 1978, when former supreme leader Deng Xiaoping first put China on the path of economic reform and opening.

These fundamentals are troublesome, and if they aren’t fixed, the U.S. economy could end up in a downward spiral in a very short period of time. With these conditions, those who are saving and investing for the long term can face a significant amount of scrutiny.

Top Reasons Why Everyone Needs a Second Passport / Politics / Social Issues

By: Casey_Research

By Nick Giambruno, Editor, International Man: Doug Casey has said over and over that spreading your political risk beyond one jurisdiction is the single most important thing he can recommend today.

Obtaining a second passport and citizenship in another country is a critical part in heeding Doug's advice.

This is because it's a fundamental step towards minimizing the political risk of being subjected to the whims of any single government.
