By: ElliottWave-Forecast

The S&P Retail Industry Index comprises stocks in the S&P Total Market Index that are classified in the GICS retail sub-industry. For this article we’ll be using The SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) which tracks an equal-weighted index of stocks in the US retail industry and correspond generally to the total return performance of the S&P Retail Select Industry Index.

The performance of XRT is significantly correlated to the prevailing level of consumer confidence in the economy because the ETF represent the companies whose main business is selling retail merchandise to consumers like WalMart , Groupon, American Eagle, ect.

The Global Rise of Chinese Corporate Giants / Companies / China Stocks

By: Dan_Steinbock

Only a decade ago, Chinese companies accounted for barely 1 percent of the world’s largest companies and multinationals. Today, their share has grown by more than tenfold.

After mid-November, Alibaba again won the highest ecommerce sales day in history on China’s Singles’ Day beating last year’s record by almost 40 percent – hitting some $25.4 billion.

In the United States, the 2016 combined Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales amounted to $6.5 billion, while Amazon’s 2017 Prime Day sales rose to $600 million to $1 billion range. Even combined, all of these revenues account for less than one-third of Alibaba’s Singles’ Day sales.

Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Switzerland Is the World’s Largest Hedge Fund / Companies / Hedge Funds

By: John_Mauldin

The BOJ, the ECB, and the Fed have gone on an asset buying spree since 2008.

Meanwhile, the more sober-minded gnomes of the Swiss National Bank expanded their own balance sheet at a much steadier pace.

Though in percentage terms, it blew it up far more than the Fed or the BOJ did theirs. And now the Swiss National Bank is the world's largest hedge fund.

Facebook Traders: Tech Giant + Technical Analysis = Thumbs Up / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: EWI

See how two technical indicators, RSI and ZLR, helped anticipate the resumption of FB's uptrend -- back in May

Some days, the fundamental backdrop of the markets you follow is as peaceful and quiet as a Zen garden. The news cycle is calm and the mainstream predictions about price are clear.

Other days, though, that backdrop is as chaotic as the Jersey turnpike during rush hour; jackhammers of breaking news pound in your ears while the "horns" of prognostication honk in opposite directions.

First Solar FSLR Recovery in Progress / Companies / Solar Energy

By: ElliottWave-Forecast

First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) designs and manufactures solar modules using a proprietary thin film semiconductor technology. The company has developed, financed, engineered, constructed and currently operates many of the world’s largest grid-connected PV power plants.

First Solar relies almost entirely on utility-scale projects which accounts for over half of the U.S. solar market and can be affected by the potential solar import tariffs by the Trump administration. However, preparation were already made to avoid such a step-back and the company booked 4.5 GW of panel and system sales in the previous quarter, more than it makes in a year.

Why Oil Stocks May Be The Best Way To Profit From The Renewable Energy Revolution / Companies / Oil Companies

By: John_Mauldin

BY PATRICK WATSON : When Europe’s central banks pushed rates below zero, large depositors found themselves paying interest instead of receiving it.

But at the same time, some lucky homeowners found their mortgage payments turn into credits.

The weirdness continues.

Bloomberg recently reported that German power producers would likely be paying customers to use electricity on one weekend.

Tesla - Can A Company Be Great And A Great Short? / Companies / Electric Cars

By: John_Rubino

One of the fascinating things about financial bubbles is how they transform great companies into screaming short sale candidates. Put another way, bear markets tend to throw even the prettiest babies out with the bathwater.

Here, for instance, is what happened to Cisco Systems, the dominant maker of networking gear (the devices that run the Internet) when the 1990s tech stock bubble burst, bankrupting many of its customers and causing its earnings to miss expectations. Its stock fell by more than three-fourths and those who had bought it during the previous year’s euphoria got hosed.
