Sarah Palin Darn's Biden into Vice-Presidential Debate Defeat / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

The vice-presidential debates proved one thing. At the very least, Sarah Palin can be trained.

For several days, she had camped out in one of John McCain's Arizona houses, where she underwent Debate Boot camp conducted by drill instructors who make Marine DIs appear to be slaggers.

Presidential Debate, Who Won? / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Shedlock

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleToday we ponder the question "Who Won The Debate?"

I will get to the specifics in a moment but last night I emailed a close friend that there were two winners and two losers. Anyone care to guess who my two winners and losers are?

US Presidential Campaign and the Bailout of Corporate America / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

Rosemary and Walter Brasch write: It was Monday evening and the phone rang—again. It was probably the fifth time in two hours. A pleasant voice said she was from the—oh that really doesn't make any difference. Both presidential candidates have volunteer minions on the phones and Internet day after day, month after month, for what seems like years.

The New President and the Global Landscape: McCain's Foreign Policy Stance / Politics / US Politics

By: STRATFOR

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleJohn McCain is the Republican candidate for president. This means he is embedded in the Republican tradition. That tradition has two roots, which are somewhat at odds with each other: One root is found in Theodore Roosevelt's variety of internationalism, and the other in Henry Cabot Lodge's opposition to the League of Nations. Those roots still exist in the Republican Party. But accommodations to the reality the Democrats created after World War II — and that Eisenhower, Nixon and, to some extent, Reagan followed — have overlain them. In many ways, the Republican tradition of foreign policy is therefore more complex than the Democratic tradition.

The New President and the Global Landscape: Obama's Foreign Policy Stance / Politics / US Politics

By: STRATFOR

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleGeorge Friedman writes: Barack Obama is the Democratic candidate for president. His advisers in foreign policy are generally Democrats. Together they carry with them an institutional memory of the Democratic Party's approach to foreign policy, and are an expression of the complexity and divisions of that approach. Like the their Republican counterparts, in many ways they are going to be severely constrained as to what they can do both by the nature of the global landscape and American resources. But to some extent, they will also be constrained and defined by the tradition they come from. Understanding that tradition and Obama's place is useful in understanding what an Obama presidency would look like in foreign affairs.

The New President and the Global Landscape: US Foreign Policy Part1 / Politics / US Politics

By: STRATFOR

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt has often been said that presidential elections are all about the economy. That just isn't true. Harry Truman's election was all about Korea. John Kennedy's election focused on missiles, Cuba and Berlin. Lyndon Johnson's and Richard Nixon's elections were heavily about Vietnam. Ronald Reagan's first election pivoted on Iran. George W. Bush's second election was about Iraq. We won't argue that presidential elections are all about foreign policy, but they are not all about the economy. The 2008 election will certainly contain a massive component of foreign policy.

Secondly, I compliment the high craft and knowledge of those who contribute to this web site. Most of what I learned about markets, theories, economic systems and their political correlations I learned here.

"America Today", from Almanac 2021 / Politics / US Politics

By: Michael_T_Bucci

America was a culture based almost exclusively on material possessions and monetary acquisition, and chief proponent of pure capitalism. When money was exhausted, credit took its place, but soon there was no collateral to back that credit or revenue to pay it back. By this time, the nation and its people were indentured to foreign countries while simultaneously taking or threatening military actions against them. Since its inception, accelerating from the Civil War period, Plutocracy had risen and finally ruled the country making divisions between rich and poor extreme, though successfully masked through instruments of mass delusion.

United States Takes a Quantum Leap Towards Socialism / Politics / US Politics

By: Michael_Pento

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleUnfortunately, we Americans now realize that the decision by Ben Bernanke to slash the Fed Funds rate to 2% (a three hundred twenty five basis point reduction) was just the opening act in this Republican administration's socialism play. At the time some wondered why the government didn't just allow home prices fall to historical averages rather than seeking to lower the value of the U.S. dollar and send inflation to a 17-year high. Now we have learned just this past weekend that the Department of the Treasury has come up with a plan for conservatorship of the GSEs, enacting the largest bailout in the history of the United States.

Obama, McCain and Your 2009 Income Tax Bill / Politics / US Politics

By: Money_and_Markets

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleNilus Mattive writes: With the national conventions behind us, and a series of debates now on the horizon, today I want to give you a little preview of what each of the two major party's candidates might do to our tax bills in 2009.

Before we go any further, I want to make something absolutely clear: I'm not endorsing either candidate's platform. I don't think they go nearly far enough in terms of true reform.

Sarah Palin the Fundamentalist Pitbull Wolf Killer / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

Defibrillator usage increased last week after John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate and only a heartbeat from control of the nation's nuclear arsenal. But, shortly after most Republicans were shocked back to life they circled the wagons to declare she was the perfect choice. Apparently, the cure also included a dose of psychotropic drugs as well.

Fiscal Stupidity, Unintelligence in Federal Intelligence Agencies / Politics / US Politics

By: Joel_S_Hirschhorn

The Bush administration has found yet another way to waste taxpayer money while providing huge sums to private contractors. According to a survey of activities in 2007 by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, about a third of the federal professional intelligence workforce now consists of contractors, mostly in the Washington, DC area.

Conventions Lose TV Networks Appeal / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

During the time that Bill Clinton was rocking the Democratic convention, ABC, CBS, and Fox were showing re-runs, NBC was showing the second hour of “America’s Got Talent,” and the CW was showing the second season finale of “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious.”

Less than two decades ago, the networks gave the conventions gavel-to-gavel coverage. This year, the networks are giving only four hours prime time coverage to each convention.

Democrats in Denver Should Read the American Monetary Act / Politics / US Politics

By: Richard_C_Cook

How are things going at the Democratic Party National Convention in Denver this week?

Are they talking about the fact that the Western world is run by an international financial elite headquartered in London, the financial capitals of mainland Europe (such as Frankfurt, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Paris, and Milan), and, of course, New York City?

American Heroes Don't Last / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Stathis

Politicians use several means to hide the real problems from voters. One of their biggest partners in this deception is the media, which helps deliver messages they want the public to hear. When critical issues are discovered within the administration, this often leads to replacement of politicians who simply tried to serve the best interests of voters. For these politicians, a forced resignation is the price of loyalty to voters.

Barack Obama's Poor Decisions a Threat to His Success / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Stathis

Let me clear about a few things. First, regardless who wins the upcoming presidential election, there will be no real change in America . In order to really understand why you have to know what is going on in this country. The problems extend much deeper than the current economic problems. Both parties are essentially the same and neither will address the real problems that are destroying America – free trade, the free market system and health care – because there is too much money to be made by the powerful forces that continue to exploit consumers, namely corporate America and their wealthy shareholders.

George Bush ‘Medaling' With Free Speech at the Olympics / Politics / US Politics

By: Walter_Brasch

President Bush sounded just like a liberal.
Yes, you read that right. Bush. Liberal. Same sentence.
At the new U.S. embassy in Beijing on the opening day of the Olympics, he said, “All people should have the freedom to say what they think.” Without even blinking, he also told the world, while directing his comments at the Chinese, “We strongly believe societies which allow the free expression of ideas tend to be the most prosperous and the most peaceful.”

Bush Chief Economic Advisor Misleadingly Warns of Obama Recession / Politics / US Politics

By: Paul_L_Kasriel

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIn an op-ed piece in today's (July 29) Wall Street Journal , Michael Boskin, the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers for President George Herbert Walker Bush, writes how Barack Obama's proposed selective tax rate increases will bring on the next recession. To be more accurate, he should have argued how Obama's tax policy might prolong the current recession.

Barack Obama and his Fellow Democrats Adopt Hoovernomics / Politics / US Politics

By: Gerard_Jackson

It's true! The Democrats are now promoting Hoovernomics as presented by the economically illiterate Obama as the only way to create growth.. The brilliant Obama and his fellow imbeciles in Congress have declared that increased government spending and a massive tax rise is just what America needs. This is really funny because that's what the hapless Hoover also reckoned.

Open Letter To Obama- How to Save America / Politics / US Politics

By: Mike_Shedlock

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDear Senator Obama. The US economy is in the worst economic crisis in decades, arguably since the great depression. Housing is collapsing, state budgets are in shambles, unemployment is soaring, and the US dollar is sinking.

Things are going to get even worse when the commercial real estate bust picks up steam. We have seen six bank failures already this year. There are 90 more banks on the problem list. Many of them will fail.
