All You Need to Know About Iran, $200 Crude Oil, and $6.00 Gas / Commodities / Crude Oil
Jason Simpkins writes: If you're unsettled by the thought of gasoline at $4.00 a gallon, brace yourself.
With tensions between Iran and the West quickly escalating, we could see gas jump to $6.00 a gallon at the pump in a matter of months.

Bullish on Crude Oil, Bearish Energy Stocks / Commodities / Crude Oil
Oil is considerably higher today, as geopolitical tensions continue, and despite despite yesterday's larger-than-expected inventory build in oil and gasoline, and unseasonably warm weather across much of the nation.
Increasingly, it appears that all of the action off of the Jan 4 high at 103.74 into this morning's price at 101.94 in NYMEX crude oil futures has carved out a high-level bullish coil pattern. When complete, this pattern should resolve into a new up-leg that propels nearby NYMEX oil to new highs projected into the 106-108 area.

Correction Over in Crude Oil? / Commodities / Crude Oil
Increasingly, my near-term work is "warning" me that the correction in NYMEX crude oil from its Jan 4 high at 103.74 likely ended at this morning's pre-market low at 100.83.
A climb above 102.05/15 will confirm the low and indicate that a new up-leg is in progress for oil and the U.S. Oil Fund ETF (USO) that should propel futures prices towards 106-108 next.

Crude Oil Prices Moving To Red Alert / Commodities / Crude Oil
Peak oil is moving back fast as permitted dinner time talk - and office time action with futures and options. And the reasons are multiple, well known, but heavily discounted until now. Through late 2011, many times, the IEA's chief economist Fatih Birol has outlined how radically the IEA sees the oil price outlook, particularly the coming and fast intensifying trend of reserve depletion hitting onshore, mature, conventional oil production. Lost in the climate crisis talk however, the oil price message was often sidelined.Read full article... Read full article...

Case for Sustained $100 Crude Oil / Commodities / Crude Oil
In 2011, oil was one of the top performing commodities among those we track, with Brent rising more than 13 percent. Geopolitical risk and unexpected non-OPEC supply losses caused oil to rise significantly in early 2011. By October, we saw the black gold sink to a low of $96 per barrel before rising to its current level of nearly $108 a barrel.

U.S. Iran War Imminent in Straits of Hormuz? $200 a Barrel Oil? / Politics / Crude Oil
The pieces and policies for potential conflict in the Persian Gulf are seemingly drawing inexorably together.
Since 24 December the Iranian Navy has been holding its ten-day Velayat 90 naval exercises, covering an area in the Arabian Sea stretching from east of the Strait of Hormuz entrance to the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden. The day the maneuvers opened Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari told a press conference that the exercises were intended to show "Iran's military prowess and defense capabilities in international waters, convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries, and test the newest military equipment." The exercise is Iran's first naval training drill since May 2010, when the country held its Velayat 89 naval maneuvers in the same area. Velayat 90 is the largest naval exercise the country has ever held.

Crude Oil Prices, The Coming Event Horizon / Commodities / Crude Oil
In a UK 'Guardian' interview, 10 November 2011, the IEA's chief economist Fatih Birol once again outlined how radically the IEA sees the oil price outlook. He said: "If fossil fuel (energy) infrastructure is not rapidly changed, the world will lose for ever the chance to avoid dangerous climate change", but more to the point he provided the IEA's estimate of what oil price rises in 2010-2011 had done for the OECD group of countries, saying annual oil import costs had risen by 30% to about $790 billion from around $625 billion in 2010.

Crude Oil Supply 2012, Should We Be Worried About Iran? / Commodities / Crude Oil
David Zeiler writes: If the Iranian government makes good on its recent threats to stop oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices would shoot up $20 to $30 a barrel within hours and the price of gasoline in the United States would rise by $1 a gallon.
Such a steep spike in crude oil prices would plunge the United States and Europe back into recession, said Money Morning Global Energy Strategist Dr. Kent Moors.

There Will Be Oil - Versus - Peak Oil Now / Commodities / Crude Oil
Claiming there is an oil limit on the economy and why peak oil is inevitable is usually talked down by saying its an unsure theory at best, and controversial, fear mongering or defeatist at worst. The totally simple numbers which prove it are however not Einstein-type mathematics and are not impossible to understand - - only by the badly intentioned or plain stupid.
We can start with the average oil consumption of OECD countries of about 14.4 barrels/capita/year, and try extending that to China and India. Presently they consume about 3 barrels per head in China and less than 2 barrels per head in India with recent growth rates as high as 6% per year.

Oil Crisis In 2012 / Commodities / Crude Oil
Will we have a massive oil crisis in 2012 ? If it happened, what would it do to the struggling global economy ?
One other question is easier to answer: can we compare this almost certain coming crisis with the Hunt for the Quark, snark or Higgs boson ? Defenders of the claim the Higgs boson exists only have their research budgets and scientific kudos to worry about, but defenders of the present de facto claim that global oil supply is secure "because of high oil prices" face a much more complex challenge.

Russian Oil Rig Disaster Reveals Growing Problem in Supply Access / Commodities / Crude Oil
Dr. Kent Moors writes: Earlier this week, an oil platform sank off the Russian Pacific coast in frigid, stormy waters.
The Kolskaya had been stationed off far northeastern Russia, and capsized when engineers were moving the jack-up rig from ongoing drilling projects in the Sea of Okhotsk to the western coast of Sakhalin Island. Accounts from the 14 survivors mention waves in excess of 20 feet.

Crude Oil Price Forecast 2012, How to Profit from $150 Oil / Commodities / Crude Oil
Jason Simpkins writes: 2011 was an up-and-down year for oil prices, but don't expect that pattern to repeat in 2012.
No, next year, the trajectory for oil prices will be far more linear - and it's pointed up.
In fact, we could even see $150 oil by mid-summer.

Expecting Upside Pivot in Crude Oil / Commodities / Crude Oil
My work in nearby NYMEX oil argues that current weakness should violate Friday's low at 97.65 on the way to a press into the 96.00 area, where the price structure should make an attempt to hold and pivot to the upside, preserving the late-Nov double-bottom lows around $95.00.

Is Oil Fueling the Rise in Political Partisanship? / Politics / Crude Oil
Tom Therramus submits: In 2009 I published a chart in an article at Oil-Price.net that showed volatility in the price of oil had risen and fallen in a series of seven spikes during the prior decade. The turbulent year of 2008, when oil jumped to over $140 a barrel, was part of this series. But what was unexpected was just how early in the 2000s the signature of spiking volatility in oil price had gotten under way.

Crude Oil Price Analysis / Commodities / Crude Oil
January Crude Oil closed lower for the second consecutive week but losses could have been worse if not for a strong comeback on Friday. The primary reason for the weakness throughout the week was concern that the European debt crisis would trigger the start of a global recession. As bearish conditions spread throughout the Euro Region, traders pressured the Euro, driving up the U.S. Dollar and lowering demand for the dollar-based crude oil market.

Crude Oil Under Pressure / Commodities / Crude Oil
NYMEX crude oil has reversed from new recovery highs at 103.37 to test its November support line at 99.20, which so far has contained the pressure.
However, judging by the sharply declining 40-hour RSI momentum gauge, we should expect additional pressure that extends weakness towards a test of much more important support at 98.25/00 next.

Many Factors Fueling a Return to $100 Crude Oil / Commodities / Crude Oil
Oil prices rose about 5 percent last week to finish only a dollar short of regaining triple-digit status. Since dipping below $80 per barrel on October 3, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices have increased almost 28 percent. This increase is nearly twice that of the S&P 500 Index, up 15 percent since October 3, but reinforces a recent trend for oil prices--as equities go, so goes oil.

How to Trade Oil ETFs when $100p/b is Reached / Commodities / Crude Oil
Crude oil was THE commodity to trade back in 2007-2008 when prices rocketed above $145 per barrel then dropped like a rock all the way back down to $35 per barrel leaving many investors and traders either greatly rewarded or dead broke.
Since then the focus of the world has moved to gold and silver as currencies spiral out of control with more and more reasons why individuals and entire countries should focus on owning physical metals rather than eroding currencies.
