Financial Sector Distressed Issues Still To Be Dealt With / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
It’s getting better all the time or so says both the Beatles and the financial markets. The economic data regarding housing indicated that sales are picking up, however that is offset by the consumer data indicating that spending is not happening and jobs continue to be hard to secure. The housing (as well as car sales) data continue to be skewed by government bailout efforts. What makes the data more concerning for the long-term viability of any recovery that we may be in the middle of is much of the activity came from distressed sales, inventories of unsold homes still rose and home prices are still falling.

Stocks Bear Market Fractal Encouragement / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
It's gotten mighty lonely in the bear camp and the bulls have certainly had their way with the bears since the March 2009 lows. It has been a rally for the ages and the subsequent pending drop will also have this distinction. In looking through a long-term chart of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, I found an encouraging fractal pattern for the current bear market rally. Markets don't repeat precisely, but they do rhyme.

Stocks Bear Market Rally, I Have Said It All! / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Ok, I have said enough. I have said it all. There is nothing else to say. To spare you the trouble of having to waste your time reading and to spare me the embarrassment, there will be no comments this week. Just graphs. As expected, the sentiment picture has changed little from last week. Go bulls!!!

Secular Stock Bear Markets and the Statistical Economic Recovery / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
The Statistical Recovery, Part Three
Capacity Utilization Set to Rise
A Real Estate Green Shoot?
The Deleveraging Society
Some Thoughts on Secular Bear Markets
This week we further explore why this recovery will be a Statistical Recovery, or one that, as someone said, is a recovery only a statistician could love. We look at capacity utilization, more on housing, some thoughts on debt and deflation, and some intriguing charts on volatility in the last secular bear-market cycle. This letter will print a little longer, but there are lots of charts. I have written this during the week, and I finish it here in Tulsa, where Amanda gets married tomorrow. (There is no deflation in weddings costs!)

The Next Financial and Economic Crisis in the Making / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Claus Vogt writes: From time to time it’s necessary to get a bird’s-eye view of the financial markets. And given the market’s recent run-up, such a moment has arrived.
Let’s start with a review of what has happened up until now to get a better understanding of what will likely happen next …

Corporate Insiders Selling Stocks , Extremely Bearish / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
We are in very good company with our bearish outlook for the stock market. Insiders at companies in the aggregate are still unloading their companies’ stock at the most rapid clip at least since October 2007, when the stock market peaked and the current, as-yet unfinished, second downleg of the Supercycle Bear Market started. (endnote 1)

Is the Great Stocks Bear Market Over? / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Is this the end of the great bear market rally?
Markets across the world took a tumble yesterday, with the FTSE 100 ending down 1.5% at 4,645, and the Dow Jones off by nearly 200 points. So why the big slide? As with most such market moves, there were plenty of stories you could pin the fall on after the fact.
Japan exited recession, but the second quarter GDP figures weren’t as good as hoped. Economic data in the States disappointed on Friday. The Chinese stock market is slipping back into bear market territory. Take your pick.

Stock Bull Market Delusions In Recovery / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
The last major stock market ‘recovery’ in the U.S. started after the October 9, 2002 ‘bottom’ and lasted 5-years and 2-days. Total gain: 103%. Unfortunately, by November 21, 2008 all of these ‘gains’ had been lost, thus rendering the 2002 ‘bottom’ open to interpretation.

Stock Market Counter Trend Rally Coming to an End / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Current Position of the Market
SPX: Long-term trend - Down! The very-long-term cycles have taken over and if they make their lows when expected, the bear market which started in October 2007 should continue until 2012-2014. This would imply that much lower prices lie ahead. This will not be a straight-down decline, but a series of intermediate-term rallies and declines until we have reached the low point.
SPX: Intermediate trend - The counter-trend rally which started in March is now coming to an end. The objective for a high is being reached and deceleration is becoming apparent. If the top has not already been reached, it should be, shortly!

Secular Stocks Bear Market Phasing / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
It seems that everyone is pretty well convinced that we are now operating within the context of a “new bull market.” Rally, yes, and this was no surprise to me or my subscribers. But, “new bull market,” I think not. Let me clarify my position on this advance.

The Next Phase of the Credit Contraction and Stocks Bear Market / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Although the waiting is the hardest part. The next phase of the credit contraction and next down leg in the bear market is set to begin. Elliott Wave just announced that on a recent day there were only 3% bulls on a daily sentiment index for the US Dollar. Now I don't care what you think about the Dollar or it's ultimate fate, a trader should be interested in taking the other side of that trade!

Stock Market Investing, Is Buy and Hold Back? / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
Hop on board or you’ll miss the train
Our trusted shepherds of illusion would like nothing more than to ignite another round of buy & hold fever as the only means by which participants can hope to survive in the speculative buying frenzy that has occurred in equity markets since the March low. Thus far, the measured results of their handiwork have them grinning ear to ear.

Stocks Bear Market Not Over And Stock Markets Will CRASH This Fall / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
A lot of commentators have begun heralding a new bull market in stocks. Day after day, I hear that March was THE bottom, that the next bull market has begun, and that anyone betting on another collapse is a moron.
These claims are not only wrong, they are completely misleading and should be depicted for what they are: nonsensical hype from sources with conflicted interests: folks whose jobs and income stem largely from people remaining bullish.

Stock Market Bulls Rush In / Stock-Markets / Stocks Bear Market
In a recent article entitled, “June Gloom / Summer Rally” penned just two months ago, we brought to readers’ attention the prospect of a summer rally following a brief period of gloom in June. We wrapped up that piece with the following remarks:
“As in 2007, July provides such opportunity for a commensurate equity consolidation. Following a successful summer/fall rally thereafter, October of 2009, the two-year anniversary of the all-time high may bring with it an echo of the blind bullishness experienced at that time.”
