Forex Market Charts and Setups: GOLD follows our Path Down / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2019

By: QUANTO

Global equities rose on Monday as the G20 summit in Osaka fuelled optimism that trade tensions will ease, while havens fell out of favour and oil rallied on an extension of production cuts by Opec+ countries. The agreement between the US and China to resume trade talks and halt the imposition of further tariffs, fed hopes that the trade war may be easing up. European stock indices followed their Asian peers higher, with the international Stoxx 600 up 0.9 per cent, led by sectors sensitive to the outlook for trade relations. The Stoxx index tracking carmakers rose 2.1 per cent and Frankfurt’s Xetra Dax 30, home to a range of exporters, was up 1.8 per cent. London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.9 per cent. S&P 500 futures tipped US stocks to open up by over 1 per cent.

The move out of havens was brisk and set gold on course for its biggest single fall in a calendar year, down 1.7 per cent to $1,385.70. Japan’s yen weakened by 0.5 per cent to ¥108.38 per dollar. The yield on 10-year US Treasuries rose by 4.5 basis points as investors move out of the debt gathered pace, taking it to 2.0447 per cent. We had suggested the short gold trade here: GOLD TO FALL 10%. Currently Gold has cracked 1385.

Freight Slowdown Is a Terrible Sign for the Economy / Economics / US Economy

By: Patrick_Watson

Just as an army moves on its stomach, an economy moves on ships, trucks, and planes. They carry the goods whose purchase adds up to growth.

Nowadays many goods are digital, delivered electronically. But we still need lots of physical stuff which must travel to the customer.

Fewer goods in motion mean lower growth… and that’s exactly what is happening.

With technology, businesses have grown adept at managing inventory. Goods don’t typically sit on store shelves very long. Retailers stop ordering quickly when demand falls.

Lower freight volume is a symptom of a disease that’s getting worse.

New US-Sino Trade Truce: Tougher Talks, More Economic Damage / Economics / Protectionism

By: Dan_Steinbock

During the G20 summit, China and US agreed to re-start the trade talks. As the US trade war is slowing China’s growth, the collateral damage is now spreading in the US economy, while undermining global prospects.

Despite the White House’s efforts to lobby other countries against Huawei, President Trump also said that US companies can supply the technology giant, which the US, Department of Commerce blacklisted last month.

After Osaka, the negotiators face challenging obstacles, despite still another temporary timeout. Deep bilateral disagreements prevail about major structural issues.

Re-examining a Popular Stock Market Long Term Bearish Signal / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2019

By: Troy_Bombardia

The stock market has been very choppy in the past year. Over the past few months, the yield curve has been extremely hyped-up in the media and social media. I found some interesting data that makes you re-think how useful the yield curve really is for marketing timing. Today’s headlines:

  1. Long term volatility is high
  2. VVIX tanked
  3. Weekend gap up
  4. Few -1% down days
  5. ISM PMI
  6. Gold’s sentiment is retreating
  7. How useful is the yield curve?

Playing the Stocks Bull Market Till the Music Stops / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2019

By: Submissions

The last week of June completed as an inside week that traded very close to within our expected 2969-2915 high-level consolidation range on the Emini S&P 500 (ES). The actual range for the week was 2961.75-2914.5.

Essentially, the market action started the consolidation late Monday. It backtested against 2915, a major must-hold level, with 2914.5 printed as the "sticksave" to become the low of the week by Wednesday June 26.

Silver Price Is on the Launching Pad, Waiting for Ignition / Commodities / Gold & Silver 2019

By: MoneyMetals

Welcome to this week’s Market Wrap Podcast, I’m Mike Gleason.

Coming up we have an interview with Greg Weldon that you absolutely are not going to want to miss. Hear what Greg has to say now about gold after accurately predicting the recent breakdown point to the dollar on this very podcast a little over a month ago. We’ll also get his thoughts on lagging silver, hear his breakdown the generational high we’re seeing in the gold to silver ratio right now and why he is on the verge of making a major trading decision in the white metal ahead of a big move he sees coming. All that and more coming up in our interview with Greg Weldon, right after this week’s market update.

Precious metals markets are set to close out the week, the month, and the quarter with underlying strength building for some big moves ahead.

The standout performer this month has been gold, breaking above $1,400 an ounce. Meanwhile, the raging palladium bull market is still powering ahead – with prices on the verge of posting new all-time highs. Even the lagging metals, silver and platinum, are showing signs of lifting off major bottoms.

Are US Real Estate ETF’s The Next Big Trade? Part II / Housing-Market / US Housing

By: Chris_Vermeulen

In part I of this research post, we highlighted how the shifting landscape of the US real estate market may be setting up an incredible trading opportunity for technical traders.  It is our belief that the continued capital shift which has been driving foreign investment into US assets, real estate, and other investments may be shifting away from US real estate as tell-tale signs of stress are starting to show.  Foreclosures and price drops are one of the first signs that stress exists in the markets and we believe the real estate segment could be setting up for an incredible trade opportunity.

SRS, the Proshares Ultrashort Real Estate EFT has recently completed a unique “washout low” price bottom that we believe may become an incredible trading opportunity for technical traders.  If the US Fed pushes the market into a panic mode, sellers will become even more desperate to offload their homes and buyers will become even more discerning in terms of selecting what and when to buy.

This Could Depress The Price Of Gold / Commodities / Gold & Silver 2019

By: Avi_Gilburt

I have to be honest and tell you that I am literally chuckling while I write some of my articles. My last gold article was one where I was certainly chuckling while writing it. Yet, I cannot tell you how many other “analysts” across the internet took me to task for something about which they thought I was being serious. I guess a sense of humor is not something that every reader possesses.

You see, so many of these gold writers have their heads buried so deeply in the sand (or elsewhere) that they cannot even understand when someone is poking fun at their conspiracy or manipulation theories. And, to think that they view my theory of aliens causing a rise in gold as any different than some of the conspiracy theories they present is nothing less than laughable. But, everyone has their theories, just as they say that everyone has an armpit. And, many stink.

Bitcoin Cycle Bullish / Currencies / Bitcoin

By: readtheticker

Dear Mr and Mrs Middle class you have been plucked and buttered ready for the oven of the next financial crisis.

Previous Posts, and notice the change in view due to bitcoin price strong move; The Coming Bitcoin Ambush  , The Great Bitcoin Slide

The lessons of Cyprus should remind us all that the big losers during a banking crisis are the savers, and if a bank is currently deducting interest from your savings account (i.e negative interest rate) why would you keep money in a bank when recession risks grow. Banks go bust in a recession and bank bail ins are to be expected to be the norm during a crisis.

Will Some Toys R Us UK Stores Re-Open for Christmas? / Companies / Retail Sector

By: Anika_Walayat

Toys R Us went bankrupt last year and closed down ALL of it's stores not just in the UK but across the world. Unfortunately children don't understand the dynamics of highly indebted corporate balance sheets. So Eliza was upset on her 4th birthday drip to discover the store shuttered and closed , so here's a trip down memory late of what it was like to shop at Toys R Us before our local store in Sheffield closed down mid 2018.

G20 News Drive Big Moves In The Markets / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2019

By: Chris_Vermeulen

This past weekend was full of exciting news and information.  Combine this with the strong US economic activity, the potential for some type of reprieve in the US/China trade issues and the historic meeting in North Korea between President Trump and Kim Jun Un, and the markets were set up for a big move at the open of trading in Tokyo.

The other big news originated from the Bank of International Settlements (BIS).  This Swiss-based central banking committee for “central banks” released an annual report on the progress of global central banks and the global economy last weekend.  They urged central banks not to chase easy money policies any longer and to focus on core policy changes, practical economic practices, and real leadership to help drive future growth.  They urged nations that easy money policies may help to show some types of immediate economic improvements – but that the risks of continuing such policies and lack of true economic reforms do nothing but pack risk into the back end of these efforts.

Gold Huge Upside if Breakout Holds / Commodities / Gold and Silver Stocks 2019

By: Jordan_Roy_Byrne

As I pen this article, Gold is set to close the month and the quarter above $1400/oz and holding the majority of its recent gains. That does not necessitate continued strength but it is a good sign.

The technicals and fundamentals are finally in place for Gold.

It is outperforming all major currencies and the Federal Reserve is weeks away from beginning a new cycle of rate cuts. The US Dollar has broken its uptrend.

The near-term outlook is very strong but if the Federal Reserve cuts three or four times and Gold strongly outperforms the stock market then this move can go to $1900/oz.

Are Real Estate ETF’s The Next Big Trade? / Housing-Market / US Housing

By: Chris_Vermeulen

A subscriber recently mentioned getting into a real estate ETF so we started going over the data which may suggest the Real Estate sector could become the next big trade over the next 12+ months.  The news that the US Fed may decrease rates in an attempt to front-run global economic weakness and real estate market weakness may result in a waterfall event in local and regional real estate markets.  This type of event could become a fantastic trading opportunity for technical traders.

Recently we have been talking about the unit and very different opportunities in other physical assets like precious metals. Each metal is unique for market timing has its own personality. Our gold predictions are an eye-opener, why silver is awesome, and our most recent analysis on platinum is timely.

Zimbabwe's Inflation is Still Surging / Economics / Inflation

By: Steve_H_Hanke

The most important price in an economy is the exchange rate between the local currency and the world’s reserve currency — the U.S. dollar. As long as there is an active black‐market (read: free market) for currency and the data are available, changes in the black‐market exchange rate can be reliably transformed into accurate estimates of countrywide inflation rates—if the annual inflation rates exceed 25%. The economic principle of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) allows for this transformation.

I compute the implied annual inflation rates with high‐frequency data and report them on a daily basis. PPP is used to translate changes in the black‐market exchange rates into annual inflation rates. For the countries that I follow each day, the table below shows the annual rates for the five countries with the highest inflation rates.
