The stock market can be a daunting experience for a beginner. However, investing in shares will provide you with an opportunity to gain greater returns. There are two different ways to have an access to the stock market: investing directly or indirectly.
Investing Directly
Direct investments mean you are buying shares from a single company and become one of their shareholders. There are many available broker services. Some offer tailored advice and bespoke services like Redmayne Bentley, Killik & Co, and Charles Stanley. However, there are also others who only execute share dealing services.

2018: The Year Of The Margin Call / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018
Indicators of a market top began piling up way back in 2014, and since then most have gone on to unprecedented extremes. Every analyst has their favorite harbinger of financial doom, but the easiest to understand — and the most tragic — is probably margin debt.
This is money borrowed by (usually individual or “retail”) investors against their existing stocks to buy more stocks. Investors tend to do this when markets are rising and using leverage seems like an effortless way turbocharge their gains. But eventually the market turns down, leaving stock portfolios insufficient to cover related margin debt and generating “margin calls” in which brokers demand more money and/or start liquidating customer portfolios. This sends the market down sharply and indiscriminately, as fairly-valued babies are dumped along with overvalued bathwater. The result: a quick, brutal bear market.

Bastiat Knew the Proper Limits of Government Force / Politics / UK Politics
High school students in the United States are usually required to take a course in government. They learn about the structure of government but rarely discover the appropriate role of government or the justifiable limits for the use of force in our society. If they did, one of their required readings would be Frédéric Bastiat’s treatise The Law, a seminal mid-Nineteenth-century work that describes eternal truths about life and how we pursue justice. These truths are just as valid today as they were then.

Stock Market Volatility Attributed to 'Shenanigans' / Stock-Markets / Volatility
Technical expert Michael Ballanger explores the maneuvering he believes underlies current market fluctuations.
Back in January, I discussed the likelihood that global equity markets were approaching simultaneous tipping points beyond which legions upon legions of GenX-ers and Millennials would be thrown to the wolves by failing to recognize the financial mania engulfing them. I alluded to it being "Time for the Beast to Exhale," and within a few days, my volatility trade (UVXY) exploded to the upside as the "beast," better known as the global stock market ascent, finally exhaled and fell 3,300 Dow Jones points in a week.

Reintroducing The Concept Of Stock Market Investing Risk / Companies / Risk Analysis
It has been a while. Aside from a bit of turbulence at the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016, those investors turning a blind eye to financial market risk enjoyed a winning strategy since 2011. Equity market volatility had been particularly subdued from the U.S. election in November 2016 until this month. We knew that this extreme complacency had to end…it just lasted longer than any rational analyst could have predicted.
It almost seems perverse to write a Commentary on the importance of managing risk in this great economic expansion with strong company profits – aided by the Republican tax cuts. Investors who just buy companies whose share prices are setting all-time record highs pass as financial geniuses. However the earnings outlook, in our opinion, has gotten a bit too rosy. Wall Street optimism has markets priced for perfection, and with many market-leading stocks trading at levels inconsistent with past earnings cycles. And more experienced investors should know that bull markets do not die on pessimism. Our challenge is to convince our readers and investors that investing in a portfolio of blue-chip stocks today is not a sufficient risk management strategy.

How Global Growth and Infrastructure are Driving Commodities / Commodities / Resources Investing
The global economy is booming again after years in the doldrums, commodities are back in a big way, and metals prices are for the most part, way up.
In our last article showing how commodities are the place to be in 2018, we looked at five drivers: inflation, the low dollar, economic growth, the relative undervalue of commodities versus other sectors, and tightness of supply. This article expands on the economic growth argument, and explains how commodity prices are being moved by a bevy of infrastructure projects around the world – all demanding “yuge”, as Donald Trump would say, amounts of metals.

Heavy Police Presence at Resumption of Sheffield Street Tree Fellings Protests / Local / Sheffield
After a 4 week break the felling of mostly healthy Sheffield street trees is set to resume on Monday 26th Feb, which is being preceded by a concerted establishment propaganda effort in an attempt at frightening off protestors from attending the sites marked with signs such as Chatsworth Road and Meersbrook Park Road, mayhem on which was the catalyst for the initial suspension of street tree fellings in January as the following video illustrates of a tree protestor being allegedly repeatedly assaulted by SIA security:

Why You Should NOT Sub4Sub Free Youtube Subscribers - YTpals, Subpals, SubmeNow Test Results / Companies / Google
On the 20th of January Youtube decided to cut all small channels loose from their partner programme, all those channels with less than 1000 subscribers and 4k watch time who by the 20th of February were ejected from the Youtube partner programme that amongst several benefits included monetization of videos which in most cases for Youtubers resulted in a token return of typically about $5-$10 per month. So the blow for being ejected from the youtube partner programme was not financial but rather Youtube effectively telling its smaller youtubers to get lost

One Belt, One Road, One Direction for Precious Metals / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018
All great events hang by a hair. The man of ability takes advantage of everything and neglects nothing that can give him a chance of success; whilst the less able man sometimes loses everything by neglecting a single one of those chances.
~Napoleon Bonaparte
China's launch several years ago of the One Belt, One Road Initiative is set to become the biggest commercial linking-system constructing project in world history. In the book David Morgan and I co-authored, Second Chance: How to Make and Keep Big Money from the Coming Gold and Silver Shock-Wave, we discuss the "New Silk Road" this way:
...the plan, described as an “economic partnership map with multiple rings interconnected with one another” envisions an economic land belt and a maritime road linking Beijing through Europe to the Mediterranean. This modern equivalent of the old Silk Road would weave together the economies of over half the world’s population via transit corridors of highways, high-speed rail, fiber-optic cables, pipelines, and air and seaport hubs.

Gold’s Curious Sentiment / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018
Gold is faring quite well today technically, though you sure wouldn’t know it from the rampant bearish sentiment. Gold’s price is in a strong uptrend over a year old, high in both its current upleg and young bull market. Gold isn’t far from breaking out to its best levels since September 2013, a really big deal. The stock markets even finally sold off after years of unnatural calm. Yet traders are still down on gold.
Across all markets price action drives psychology. When something’s price is rising, traders get excited and bullish on it. So they increasingly buy to ride that upside momentum, amplifying it. Of course the opposite is true when a price is falling, which breeds bearishness and capital flight. Given gold’s great technical picture today, investors and speculators alike should be growing enthusiastic about its upside potential.

Vicious Trio Keeps Bitcoin in Chokehold / Currencies / Bitcoin
The craziness of it. Bitcoin has been storming up and down, from $20,000 to $6,000 and back to $11,000 again. This volatility makes most traders’ stomachs churn, their faces go pale and their palms start to sweat. As if this action weren’t enough, an unknown trader has put their money where their mouth is – all $400 million of it. One can’t help but wonder what in the market justifies such an extreme move. On the Fortune website, we read:
An anonymous trader has sunk $400 million—enough to buy New York state’s most expensive home twice with change left over—into the cryptocurrency, raising his or her stake from 55,000 coins to more than 96,000 between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12. And that buy-in is already paying substantial returns.

Relationship Between Crude Oil and U.S. Dollar in February 2018 / Commodities / Crude Oil
On Thursday, the price of black gold moved higher after the EIA weekly report showed an unexpected decline in crude oil inventories. Is this one bullish factor strong enough to push light crude higher in the following days? What did the buyers miss?
Yesterday, the Energy Information Administration reported that crude oil inventories declined by 1.6 million barrels in the week ended Feb. 16, beating expectations for a gain of around 1.8 million barrels. This first in four weeks decline in crude oil stocks in combination with a smaller than expected increase in gasoline inventories and drop in distillates supplies encouraged oil bulls to act. As a result, the price of black gold climbed to an intraday high slightly above $63, but did this increase change the short-term outlook for crude oil?
