Failure of War Party Foreign Policy / Politics / US Politics

By: BATR

The continuous foreign policy failures of the entrenched establishment goes back well over a century. Notwithstanding, the missed opportunity with the collapse of the Soviet Communism has emboldened the war party of the American Empire to become the main existential threat not only to our own country, but to much of the rest of the world. The militarists who chant "Thank You for your Service" are actually committed to expand the Wounded Warrior dupes, who are expendable. The United States never learned the lessons of Viet Nam. Volunteering to fight in unnecessary foreign adventures has caused more gratuitous suffering than any improvised explosive device that blows off limbs.

How a Simple Line Can Improve Your Trading Success / InvestorEducation / Technical Analysis

By: EWI

Elliott Wave International's Jeffrey Kennedy explains many ways to use this basic chart tool

The following trading lesson has been adapted from Jeffrey Kennedy's eBook, "Trading the Line -- 5 Ways You Can Use Trendlines to Improve Your Trading Decisions."

"How to draw a trendline" is one of the first things traders and investors learn when they study technical analysis. Typically, they quickly move on to more advanced topics and too often discard this simplest of all technical tools.

Gold Prices Choppy after Payrolls / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: Arkadiusz_Sieron

The U.S. economy added only 148,000 jobs in December. Gold prices reacted in a choppy way, confusing some analysts. Why?

December Payrolls Disappoint

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased only 148,000 in December, the slowest pace in three months. The employment gains were generally widespread, but the biggest employers were construction (+30,000), leisure and hospitality (+29,000), education and health services (+28,000), and manufacturing (+25,000). The latter rise is a particularly bright spot, given the not-so-distant problems of the sector.  On the other hand, retail trade cut 20,000 jobs, which confirms that some traditional brick-and-mortar stores struggle.

More Important Than Gold’s Bottoming Price  / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: P_Radomski_CFA

Time is more important than price. That’s what we – investors – are often made to believe regarding the future price movement. And rightfully so. The price could reach a bottom several dollars ahead of the predicted price target or it could break through it, leaving investors wondering, if there was a breakdown and thus they should expect to see another big downswing shortly. With time, things are clearer. The time for a given move is up and the price reverses. When is gold likely to finally bottom?

Between August and October 2018. That’s the most up-to-date estimate based on the data that we have right now. Here’s why (charts courtesy of http://stockcharts.com).

Getting Bullish on Gold / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: The_Gold_Report

Rudi Fronk and Jim Anthony, cofounders of Seabridge Gold, discuss gold's recent moves and potential signs of a bull market.

Gold is up nine of the last 12 Januaries with an average gain of over 4%, and the trend has continued in 2018 with gold reaching an intraday high of $1,327 so far this year. From December 19 of last year, gold rose 10 trading days in a row. Is this another rally destined to disappoint investors or the resumption of the gold bull market?

US Interest Rates Walking on Narrow Ledge / Interest-Rates / US Interest Rates

By: Michael_Pento

There is a huge shock in store for those who have been lulled to sleep by a stock market that has become accustomed to no volatility and only an upward direction. And that alarm bell can be found in the price action of Bitcoin, which recently tumbled over 40% is less than a week. For the implosion within the cryptocurrency world foreshadows what will happen with the major averages as the Federal Reserve futilely attempts to stop monetizing the exploding mountain of U.S. debt.

Share Market Is One Of The Most Encouraging Opportunity For Young And Old Alike To Make Profitable Investments / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

By: Kavinesh_A

Taking a count on the number of people who have benefited from the amount of shares that have been purchased, there are many certain levels of ideal benefits in investing for shares. The profit is one thing but the thrill of waiting is another level altogether. The ups and downs are always there but when it comes to the very foundation of having a stern yet disciplined outlook on investment, things can get quite real and always will suffice the very ideology of fulfilling desires of monetary value. In realizing the importance of shares, one needs to be really on top of the game that will garner them enough support in making it easily possible for anyone to breathe easy on terms of realizing the very possibilities of profitable investments.

Stock Market Close Call... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

Good Morning!

SPX opened down…and in the nick of time, since the current Wave structure is invalidated above 2743.80. The alternate Wave structure goes much higher, thus my hesitation in writing until the open.

One measure that I missed is that Super Cycle Wave (b) is 2.618 time the size of Super Cycle Wave (a) at 2720.56. Again, using Elliott Wave, one must compare the Waves at the same degree. This is a flaw of Northman Trader that many will not pick up on.

By: John_Mauldin

BY OLIVIER GARRET : The growth of ETFs since the Global Financial Crisis has been staggering.

Total ETF assets under management is now approaching US $5 trillion, a 400% increase from the $1 trillion held in 2009.

Investors now have access to over 7,000 ETF/ETP products. To put that number in perspective, there are only 2,400 stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Why Trump’s Tax Plan Might Be Counterproductive / Politics / Taxes

By: John_Mauldin

Whether you like Trump or not, the new administration is making some good things happen.

The combined impact of deregulation, tax cuts, and (possibly) infrastructure spending will push back against the Fed’s monetary tightening and keep the economy on roughly the same course as in 2017.

If the Republican tax bill isn’t what you wanted, join the club—I was a charter member as my Thoughts from the Frontline readers know.

The Real LORAX and Once-ler's of Sheffield's Street Tree Felling's / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

I am sure many will have watched the LORAX movie with their children that acts as a warning of what can go wrong when corporate greed runs rampant resulting in the destruction of the environment. Unfortunately the people of Sheffield find themselves in a similar predicament as thousands of street trees are being felled by a corporate Once-ler giant named AMEY. In response to which many of Sheffield's ordinary citizens have turned into real life LORAX who speak for Sheffield's street trees. Against whom are martialed the forces of the establishment, a Labour controlled city council and it's £2.2 billion PFI contractor Amey. Where we have been increasingly witnessing the deployment of measures on the streets that go far beyond the realms of what one would expect from a British local city council, instead which resembles private militias roaming the streets along with their green vested evidence gatherers akin to something out of an eastern european dictatorship.

Share Trading is an Interesting for Everyone / Companies / Stock Markets 2018

By: Kavinesh_A

Share trading is an interesting job for everyone. The reason is the fluctuation is one time price is increasing for a share, because that company would have earned some millions of dollars, same time that company must have paid that amount for different purchase. Immediately the price of that company would go down. The reason is the company has not assets. That is the reason share price is going down to that company.

The Way to the New Cold War / Politics / New Cold War

By: Dan_Steinbock

Despite continued nuclear threats, all US postwar presidents have failed to reset relations with Russia. Why?

The “New Cold War” between the US and Russia began a decade ago. The elevated tensions in the Korean Peninsula are only a part of the collateral damage around the world.

But what led to the new friction? The simple response is the Wolfowitz Doctrine.

Stock Market Melt-up, Up, and Away / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

By: The_Gold_Report

Precious metals expert Michael Ballanger likes what he sees for gold in 2018's first week of trading.

While the moniker for this missive is "Gold and Gold Miners," I just sit back in absolute AWE as the global equity investors (otherwise known as "Stock jockeys") have decided that "cash is TRASH!" and despite a massive "miss" in the employment numbers this morning, within seconds of the release, the spin doctors manning the equity trading desks deemed that number "bullish" because it is less inflationary and may cause the Fed to "pause." So dollar-yen rallies, the USD index has a minor pop, gold sells off, and stocks come out of the gate up another 0.25% with all of the bubblicious bravado of a high school quarterback getting his first win.

Gold – What Are We Waiting For? / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: Kelsey_Williams

The other shoe to drop? The next big move? Up or down?

Gold’s reign as the “next big thing” ended seven years ago. Too many people don’t want to admit that, but its true. Those who are ‘bullish’ on gold cannot let go.

Their behavior is typical of those who have missed the boat. And they don’t want to admit it, or believe it. And their problem is compounded by the fact that they originally viewed gold as a quality investment. Now they continue to point out all of the fundamental reasons gold should go much higher. We are told it is undervalued, unappreciated, unloved. And, of course, the price is manipulated, too.
